ILSP Youth Specialist (Bilingual) First Place for Youth — San Francisco, California, United States Overview We are seeking a bilingual ILSP Youth Specialist to empower and support foster youth as they transition to adulthood. The role works with youth, their providers (e.g., social workers, attorneys, teachers, mental health clinicians), and community resources to help youth achieve their high school diploma or equivalent and pursue Education and Employment goals while building permanency and independence. Position Summary The Bilingual ILSP Youth Specialist provides intensive education- and employment-focused services to youth on their caseload. This in-office role requires onsite work in San Francisco, typically 10:00 a.m.–6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with occasional evenings and/or Saturdays. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Support youth to identify and work toward employment and educational goals that support long-term permanency. Build and maintain trusting relationships with high school students and community partners. Provide translation during intake meetings for primarily Spanish-speaking youth. Conduct individual case management meetings to help participants identify and progress toward short- and long-term goals in education, employment, housing, parenting, relationships, and health. Assist youth in securing full-time, part-time, and summer employment; accompany youth to job fairs, interviews, and applications. Work with youth to create and revise resumes; counsel on career exploration and job retention. Coordinate with community service providers to ensure youth develop and maintain employment plans. Coach youth on handling work-related issues and promote self-advocacy. Create, translate, and facilitate or co-facilitate in-person or virtual workshops on vocational, educational, and career topics. Develop and maintain relationships with high schools, GED services, colleges, and vocational schools. Counsel youth on available financial aid and assist with the application process; interface with special education departments and staff; support IEP meetings. Work with external service providers to ensure youth develop and maintain their educational plan. Other duties as assigned. Case Coordination and Community Resources Coordinate education and employment services with external service providers where youth are housed. Identify and advocate for services youth need to reach their goals. Provide crisis service resources and referrals for homeless and runaway youth. Leverage external provider support to ensure youth receive essential services; build strong partner relationships with county social workers, group homes, and other resources. Documentation and Administrative Duties Ensure youth are meeting Action Plan goals for employment and education; enter data on time and accurately for program evaluation and outcomes tracking. Translate flyers and outreach materials as needed; collaborate across the organization; attend weekly program meetings and supervision. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in education or related field preferred. Fluency in Spanish (reading, writing, and verbal). Demonstrated cultural competency and ability to remove barriers. Three years of experience working with at-risk youth; preferably current or former foster youth. One year of experience with youth career development and job placement capacities preferred. Strong knowledge of education and employment resources for youth in the Bay Area; understanding of issues facing transitioning foster youth. Experience in youth development models, asset-based relationship-building, and motivating youth. Ability to work under pressure, multi-task, and handle complex situations in a fast-paced environment with humor, patience, and tact. Pass a Community Care Licensing background check. Computer skills: MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); database experience preferred. Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to research, synthesize, and present data clearly. Availability for occasional evening and weekend work and some travel as needed.
