Environmental, Energy and Regulatory Counsel/Income Partner

An internationally recognized law firm is seeking an experienced Counsel or Income Partner to join its established Energy & Cleantech practice. The position can be based in any of the firm's U.S. offices and offers the opportunity to advise a diverse client base on sophisticated regulatory, litigation and transactional matters across the energy sector.

The successful candidate will have significant experience practicing before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), combined with experience advising on the development, acquisition, sale and financing of regulated energy assets. The role will involve regulatory counseling, contentious matters and supporting complex energy-related corporate transactions.

Responsibilities:

• Represent energy-sector clients in regulatory and litigation matters before FERC.
• Advise clients on FERC regulatory compliance, enforcement, rates, markets, transmission and related proceedings.
• Handle matters before state public utility commissions and other state energy regulatory agencies.
• Advise on the development, acquisition, sale and financing of regulated energy assets.
• Provide regulatory advice in connection with energy-related mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures and other corporate transactions.
• Deliver strategic regulatory counseling on developments affecting the energy industry.
• Manage sophisticated client matters independently while collaborating with colleagues across energy, corporate and litigation practices.
• Develop and maintain strong client relationships and contribute to the continued growth of the Energy & Cleantech practice.

Qualifications:

• Significant experience practicing before FERC is required.
• Experience before state public utility commissions and other state energy regulatory agencies.
• Strong energy regulatory and litigation experience.
• Transactional experience involving the development, acquisition, sale and/or financing of regulated energy assets.
• Experience advising on the regulatory aspects of energy-related M&A, joint ventures and other transactions.
• Excellent written and oral advocacy skills.
• Ability to independently manage sophisticated matters while working effectively as part of a wider team.
• Strong interest in business development and growing client relationships.
• Candidates will be considered at either Counsel or Income Partner level, depending on experience.
• Candidates seeking Income Partner consideration should have a portable book of business of at least $500,000 and a demonstrated ability to develop and expand client relationships.
