Title: Housing Coordinator

Program: PSTP, Re-Entry Housing

Salary Range: $45,000 - $50,000 per year

Program Description:

The Reentry Housing Program is a scatter site transitional housing program that provides supportive housing services to approximately 90 men/women parolees being released from New York State Correctional facilities and have been diagnosed with serious mental illness and/or substance use disorders. The multidisciplinary team consists of Intensive Case Managers, Supportive Case Managers, Housing Counselors, psychiatric providers, and occupational therapists who work collaboratively to promote housing stability, improve client well-being, and support successful community reintegration. Additionally, the program offers a comprehensive array of supportive services designed to enhance clients’ stability, independence, and long-term recovery.

Overall Responsibilities:

Under the general supervision of the Program Director, the Housing Coordinator is responsible for managing approximately 45 scattered-site apartments located throughout the Bronx and Manhattan. Responsibilities include lease administration, apartment preparation and furnishing, coordinating maintenance and repairs, responding to clients’ housing needs, ensuring apartments remain safe and habitable, identifying new housing opportunities, preparing reports for the Program Director, and performing other duties as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The essential duties of the Housing Coordinator include but are not limited to the following activities:

• Travel throughout New York City using public transportation for a minimum of three days per week to conduct field visits. This position requires frequent walking, climbing stairs, and visiting walk-up buildings ranging from three to six stories in the Bronx and Manhattan.

• Serve as the primary point of contact for tenants regarding housing-related concerns and maintenance requests.

• Receive, document, and track maintenance complaints to ensure timely resolution.

• Coordinate with landlords, property managers, and maintenance vendors to schedule repairs and follow up until completion.

• Oversee repairs performed in clients’ apartments to ensure work is completed satisfactorily.

• Establish and terminate Con Edison and National Grid utility accounts as needed.

• Coordinate and oversee biannual Housing Quality Standards (HQS) inspections for approximately 116 apartments and complete additional inspections when necessary.

• Ensure all apartments are equipped with properly functioning fire safety equipment and remain in compliance with safety regulations.

• Identify and secure new apartment opportunities by maintaining relationships with brokers, landlords, and property management companies.

• Maintain an inventory of apartment keys and produce copies as needed.

• Prepare purchase requisitions for furniture, appliances, utilities, household supplies, and other equipment necessary to prepare apartments for occupancy.

• Maintain an accurate inventory of furniture, equipment, and household items.

• Review and monitor vendor invoices to ensure purchases are accurate and payments are processed promptly.

• Coordinate extermination and pest control services as needed.

• Conduct monthly apartment inspections to ensure units remain safe, sanitary, and compliant with occupancy standards, while confirming clients are maintaining their apartments appropriately.

• Collaborate with Case Managers and Housing Counselors to address housing-related concerns and resolve client issues affecting housing stability.

• Prepare reports for the Program Director regarding apartment inspections, lease expirations, client service fees, and other housing-related matters.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.

• Valid New York State driver’s license is preferred but not required.

• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

• Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet documentation deadlines.

• Demonstrated ability to establish effective working relationships with clients, landlords, vendors, community partners, and multidisciplinary staff.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams). Experience with HIPPO or other property management/database systems is preferred.

• Ability to identify housing issues, prioritize competing demands, and develop effective solutions in a fast-paced environment.

• Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain accurate records, inventories, and compliance documentation.

• Bilingual (English/Spanish) or multilingual candidates are strongly preferred.
