Postdoctoral Associate – Sea Level Rise Projections and Climate Risk Assessment & Management Position within the Rutgers University Earth & Planetary Sciences Department’s Earth System Science & Policy Lab, directed by Professor Robert Kopp. The Lab investigates sea‑level change, its impact on the economy, and how to support climate risk management under deep uncertainty. Key responsibilities include: Contributing to the FACTS sea‑level projection framework and related projects. Developing next‑generation sea‑level rise projections for the IPCC report. Integrating high‑impact scenarios (e.g., ice‑sheet collapse, AMOC collapse) into global, relative, and extreme sea‑level projections. Working with collaborators in the NASA Sea‑Level Change Team, Climate Impact Lab, and the MACH program on valuation and insurance of coastal risk and adaptation decision‑making. Position is grant‑funded, based at Rutgers‑New Brunswick, and eligible for renewal for up to three years subject to performance and funding. Position type: Full time. Qualifications Minimum education and experience: PhD in oceanography, atmospheric science, geophysics, economics, computer science, statistics, or a related discipline. Familiarity with literature relevant to sea‑level projections and/or coastal climate risk. Strong coding skills, especially in Python. Excellent organizational and communication skills. Preferred qualifications: Experience with high‑performance computing. Experience developing emulators for complex models.
