Teaching Specialist/Lecturer 26-27AY: Anthropology (Continuous Recruitment)

About the Job The Department of Anthropology in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota occasionally needs teaching specialists or lecturers to teach courses that cannot be staffed by regular faculty or graduate students. Positions are temporary and part-time, typically one semester or one academic year, and may be renewable based on need and funding. Teaching specialists and lecturers will be expected to teach undergraduate or graduate students in assigned course(s), work with students to improve their knowledge, plan and develop lessons and assignments, assess students’ progress by grading papers and tests, hold office hours to assist and advise students, work with teaching assistants (if assigned) to coordinate student activities, and participate in relevant departmental meetings. Teaching Specialists Teach undergraduate courses in classroom settings. May teach graduate courses in classroom settings when substantial equivalent experience can substitute the degree (Heritage Studies and Public History program). Lecturers Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in classroom and online settings. Teaching Specialist Required Qualifications MA degree or BA/BS degree plus 4 years of post‑baccalaureate education in an advanced degree program. Degree knowledge in course content area, evidence of excellent written and verbal communication skills, special expertise or specific teaching need within the department. Academic training, prior teaching experience, and relevant life or professional experience. Lecturer Required Qualifications Ph.D. degree, knowledge of course content area, evidence of excellent written and verbal communication skills, special expertise and specific teaching need of the department. Academic training, prior teaching experience, and relevant life or professional experience. Pay and Benefits Pay Range: based on education, qualifications, and experience. Teaching Specialists: Undergraduate credit courses $1,585 – $3,000 per credit; Undergraduate credit courses $6,000 – $9,000 per course. Lecturers: Undergraduate credit courses $2,500 – $3,500 per credit; Undergraduate credit courses $7,500 – $10,500 per course. The pay rate for graduate credit courses is the same as the standard rate for undergraduate courses.
