Teaching Specialist/Lecturer (2026-2027): Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences (Continuous Recruitment)

About the Job The Department of Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota occasionally needs teaching specialists or lecturers to teach courses that cannot be staffed by regular faculty or graduate students. Openings of this kind sometimes occur for teaching evening and summer session, as well as day courses and courses offered through Independent and Distance Learning. These positions are temporary and part-time. This does not constitute a posting for vacancies, but establishes a pool of applicants should openings occur during the 2026/27 academic year. Applicants will be selected from this pool on an as‑needed basis through the academic year. Appointments may be renewable based on need, funding, and performance. Applicants will not be acknowledged upon receipt. Applicants will only be contacted should an active opening occur during the academic year. Positions may be appointed during the 2026–2027 academic year: Fall 2026 (8/31/2026 – 1/13/2027) or Spring 2027 (1/14/2027 – 5/30/2027). Teaching specialists and lecturers will be expected to teach undergraduate or graduate students in assigned course(s), hold office hours to assist and advise students, and participate in relevant departmental meetings. Qualifications Required Qualifications: M.A. degree from an accredited institution in Speech-Pathology and certification in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC‑SLP) or Doctor of Audiology and certification in Audiology (CCC‑A), with at least two years of professional experience beyond the Clinical Fellowship Year in a hospital or school setting. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be capable of delivering high-quality instruction to a diverse student body. Preferred Qualifications: College-level teaching experience and supervision of students in a clinical setting. Previous experience providing educational experiences to health care providers. Preference will be given to applicants with knowledge and experience providing clinical care to pediatric and adult patients. Applicants with a master’s or PhD will be appointed at the Lecturer level. About the Department The department offers internationally recognized programs in speech-language hearing sciences (BA, Ph.D.), speech-language pathology (M.A.), and audiology (Au.D.) that provide outstanding opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students to pursue academic, educational, and clinical careers. The department hosts a Bilingual Multicultural Emphasis Certificate Program for graduate students in speech-language pathology and audiology. Faculty research and teaching are strongly supported at the unit and collegiate levels. Interdisciplinary collaborations abound across the university. Many faculty collaborate with university-wide centers, including the Center for Cognitive Sciences, the Center for Applied and Translational Sensory Sciences, The Masonic Institute on the Developing Brain, and the Center for Clinical Movement Disorders. The department also has ongoing collegial relationships with the departments of Psychology, Otolaryngology, and with the College of Education and Human Development. Pay and Benefits Pay Range: $6,600 – $8,000 per course; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
