In this role, the Software Development Engineer will be responsible for developing and deploying embedded software solutions for BorgWarner AWD products. Utilizing their technical expertise, they will ensure software product deadlines and deliverables are achieved. They will specify, design, develop, test, release, maintain, and enhance embedded software components of BorgWarner’s AWD products. They will develop the software products utilizing a combination of Model based design, autocode generation, and embedded c programming. The software development will follow the BorgWarner software development process which complies to Automotive SPICE. They will work along with other BorgWarner engineers to ensure that program goals are met, schedules are maintained, and problems encountered during the development process are satisfactorily resolved.Key Accountabilities:Analyze and Estimate SW Development Activities and Tasks.Elicit, Analyze, Decompose, Develop, and Manage Software Requirements.Identify and Define SW Units, documenting the SW Detailed Design of the SW units.Develop Software Units according to the Detailed Design, using various programming languages, methods, and techniques as appropriate. This includes model based design, autocode generation, and embedded c programming.Plan, Develop, and Execute Unit and Integration tests according to the project test plan/strategy for the assigned SW Units.Perform root cause analysis, problem solving, and resolution for any issues identified.Support, Maintain, and Update planning and tracking activities, including the assigned work items, change requests, and defects.Store and manage all work products according to the Configuration Management plan.Establish bi-directional traceability between SW work products.Perform consistency checks, and peer reviews of SW work products.Support open communication within the team.Adhere to company’s processes and procedures. Look for and propose process improvements.Work with other BorgWarner engineers and departments to ensure that program goals are met, schedules are maintained, and problems encountered during the development process are resolved.Document and share best-practices.Education and Experience:Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electronic Communication, or Electrical Engineering required5+ years professional experience developing embedded software using the C programming language in the automotive, aerospace, commercial machinery, or rail industries required5+ years professional experience utilizing Matlab/Simulink to develop embedded software for production projects requiredProfessional experience configuring or interfacing to an AUTOSAR software stack requiredProfessional experience of auto-generation of embedded C source code from model-based designs using dSPACE Targetlink or Matlab Embedded Coder requiredProfessional experience with software design verification through unit testing in a Simulink or Embedded test framework environment (MIL, SIL) requiredProfessional Hands-on experience debugging and correcting model and source code defects utilizing commercially available embedded debugging tools on target requiredPerformance of SW Development through adherence to an ASPICE compliant software development process requiredFamiliarity with automotive electrical and mechatronic embedded systems (brush/brushless DC motors, solenoids, relays, electromagnetic coils, switches, indicators, etc.) preferredExpertise working with network protocols (e.g. CAN) and associated tools is preferred.Experience developing software in an AUTOSAR compliant software architecture is preferred.Experience developing software for ISO26262 Functional Safety compliant products is preferred.Core Competencies:Learning on the FlyAction OrientatedFunctional/Technical SkillsInformingSelf-KnowledgeDrive for ResultsEthics & ValuesInterpersonal SavvyCustomer FocusDecision QualitySafetyThis position will adhere to Global Star Safety Program, including safety rules, practices and training as outlined in the BorgWarner PTC Safety Policy Manual, which includes the use of equipment, protective devices, or clothing that the employer requires.
