Sous Chef

Role Overview Goodwin House is hiring a mid‑level Sous Chef for a full‑time position in Falls Church, Virginia. The pay range is $62,000–$68,000 per year. This role operates five days a week, mid‑day to close. The successful candidate will provide direct leadership in a scratch kitchen, preparing up to 1,000 meals a day for residents, staff, and guests. The candidate reports to the Executive Chef, manages and trains a team of 60 cooks, and enforces safety, sanitation, consistency, and quality standards. Responsibilities Assist with planning regular and modified menus according to established guidelines. Train kitchen staff in food preparation, safe handling, operation of equipment, food safety, and sanitation. Establish and maintain cleaning and maintenance schedules for equipment, storage, and work areas, ensuring staff adherence. Maintain inventory of food and non‑food supplies within established guidelines. Make all decisions regarding utilization of leftover food products within regulatory guidelines. Comply with federal, state, and local health and sanitation regulations and department procedures, as evidenced by audits. Adhere to confidentiality, HIPAA, and patient‑rights policies. Follow protocols for Hazardous Materials and Waste Program. Participate in emergency preparedness drills. Model ownership attributes to provide high‑level customer service at all points of contact. Interview candidates for employment and make hiring and termination decisions in consultation with Human Resources and the DS Director. Mentor employees with personal growth, training, and job skills. Delegate responsibilities to ensure effective task completion. Encourage feedback, maintain relations with, and monitor commitment to delivering highest‑quality service to residents, internal customers, and partners/suppliers. Qualifications High school graduate or equivalent required. Three years of food‑service experience preferred; minimum one year required. Minimum three years of supervisory experience preferred.
