Opening: General Accountant Location: Anchorage, AK Pay: $70,000 to $85,000 Annually DOE


ABOUT THE ROLE:


We are seeking a skilled and dependable General Accountant to support the finance department of a well-established organization in the Anchorage area. This role handles a broad range of accounting and administrative responsibilities including financial statement preparation, account reconciliation, financial data analysis, cash handling, and daily bank deposits.


This is a full-time, in-office position at the Anchorage headquarters, ideal for an accounting professional who takes ownership of their work, communicates effectively across departments, and thrives in a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.


WHAT YOU'LL DO:

• Own the accounts payable function including invoice processing and timely resolution of discrepancies
• Oversee the purchase order system and manage inventory accounts
• Perform accounts payable, credit card, and inventory reconciliations
• Process and manage cash and check deposits
• Analyze financial data and trends to identify variances, anomalies, and opportunities for improvement
• Assist with preparation of budgets, forecasts, and financial projections
• Support external audits by providing documentation and explanations as needed
• Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP
• Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve efficiency and accuracy
• Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and regulations
• Serve as a point of contact for visitors and vendors
• Process and route incoming and outgoing mail
• Participate in special projects and initiatives as assigned by management

REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; CPA preferred
• Minimum 3 years of experience in an accounting role
• Proficiency in Microsoft 365 with strong emphasis on Excel, including formulas, workbooks, and pivot tables
• Experience with accounts payable and accounts receivable functions including data entry and journal entries
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret policy and procedure manuals and technical documentation
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present information to managers and stakeholders
• Ability to define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions
• Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Ability to interpret and apply a variety of instructions across different situations
