Accounting Assistant

We are looking for a dependable, detail-oriented Accounting Assistant to join our growing team. This position supports our local Harrisonburg Division by assisting with Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), data entry, customer service, and general office administration. This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their accounting career who is eager to learn, grow professionally, and gain experience in the construction industry. We offer a collaborative work environment where accuracy, teamwork, and customer service are valued. Responsibilites Process Accounts Payable invoices accurately and efficiently. Assist with Accounts Receivable, including preparing invoices, account statements, and related documentation. Reconcile company credit card statements. Enter equipment and truck hours accurately into company systems. Create, maintain, and update spreadsheets and reports using Microsoft Excel. Answer and direct incoming phone calls and greet customers, vendors, and visitors in a professional manner. Respond to email inquiries and ensure timely follow-up. Provide administrative support to the Accounting Department and office management. Maintain organized electronic filing systems. Perform other accounting and administrative duties as assigned. Requirements Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn. Ability to work independently while contributing as part of a team. Reliable attendance and punctuality are required. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Two or more years of accounting, bookkeeping, or related office experience preferred. Coursework or an associate degree in Accounting, Business, or a related field is a plus. Experience in the construction industry is preferred but not required. Experience with accounting software or ERP systems is preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, and Outlook.
