Assistant/Associate Professor in Movement and Rehabilitation Sciences

The Department of Physical Therapy and Human Movement Sciences (DPTHMS), Northwestern University, Feinberg School of Medicine, invites senior scientists to apply for a new full-time appointment for a tenured position in the area of Movement and Rehabilitation Sciences at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. The research program of qualified candidates should contain a translational component—ranging from studies of mechanisms of neuromuscular and musculoskeletal disorders with translational implications to clinical studies on patients. A strong record of federal grant support is essential. A major component of the position will involve a significant leadership role in further developing the Department's already excellent research program with a specific goal of expanding translational research. Teaching responsibilities will be modest, primarily involving courses for graduate students in physical therapy, neuroscience and/or biomedical engineering. The position is being offered at the assistant/associate professor level. Salary is negotiable. Ideal applicants will hold a PhD or PhD/PT, with a strong track record of scholarly productivity, grant support, and trainee mentorship. Location: Chicago, Illinois. PTHMS is part of the vibrant educational and cultural community of Northwestern University, located on its Chicago campus between North Michigan Avenue and Lake Michigan along "Chicago's Magnificent Mile". The Department includes strong, talented faculty engaged in research, teaching and clinical practice. Faculty have shared positions and collaborations with colleagues in several departments. A secondary appointment in engineering is available depending on the applicant's background. PTHMS faculty participate in two NIH-funded graduate student training programs in movement and rehabilitation sciences. Research interests focus on movement disorders in persons with neuromuscular dysfunction, including stroke, cerebral palsy, spinal cord injury, Parkinson's disease and musculoskeletal injuries through engineering, physical and pharmacological approaches.
