Curator II (3542) - Applied Design Program Manager - Randall Museum - SF Recreation & Parks Company Description Amid a dynamic and ever‑evolving urban landscape, the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department stewards one of the premier urban park systems in America. The Department manages more than 230 parks, playgrounds, and open spaces throughout San Francisco, including Golden Gate Park, Coit Tower, and the San Francisco Zoo. The Randall Museum, established in 1951, provides exhibits, classes, workshops, and special events for children and adults. Application Timing and Salary Full‑time, permanent exempt. Salary range $97,084 – $118,118 per year. Responsibilities Oversee overall administration of the museum’s carpentry shop, Technology FabLab, and ceramics studio. Plan and manage quarterly classes and workshops, coaching instructors on syllabi, classroom management, and efficient material use. Support all museum programs and ensure high‑quality public programming in applied technology disciplines such as woodworking, ceramics, electronics, robotics, and optics. Plan, prepare, and install new museum exhibits, maintaining permanent and changing displays. Maintain an annual budget for the Applied Technology Program, contract city vendors, and coordinate with maintenance staff for equipment and exhibit improvements. Supervise part‑time instructors and recreation staff, setting goals, scheduling work, and providing training. Conduct safety training and maintain safety records for shop equipment and materials. Coordinate museum‑wide events, develop and install bi‑annual exhibits, and prepare activities for family day events. Build relationships with the public, partner agencies, foundations, and youth programs to expand applied arts programming. Perform other related duties as assigned. Duties & Responsibilities (Additional) Maintain organization and ordering of materials and supplies. Lead communication updates with the Museum Director regarding shop operations. Contract and coordinate with outside contractors for shop or exhibit improvements. Provide public programming and represent the museum at community events. Work with government agencies, foundations, and individuals on applied arts programs. Contract and coordinate with youth work programs for training and employment opportunities. Qualifications Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in fine arts, art history, decorative arts, design, history, library science, museum studies, natural history, science, technology, or other closely related disciplines. Three (3) years of museum experience. Desirable Qualifications Preferred coursework in science, engineering, industrial arts, electronics, industrial design, or related subject matter. Three years of experience designing and implementing multi‑session classes in applied arts. Experience in exhibit design, graphic design, industrial design, fabrication, STEM education, or similar fields. Four years of supervisory experience with museum, education, or recreation staff. Demonstrated cultural competency and effective educational practices for diverse learners. Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Graphic design, technical drawing, or illustration experience. Experience working with young learners.
