Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)

The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) is responsible for administering safe and effective respiratory care as ordered by the physician, with a focus on specialized areas such as Emergency, Neonatal, Pediatric, Geriatric, and Critical Care. The role includes monitoring mechanical ventilation, administering medications, conducting patient assessments, and understanding the implications of hemodynamic monitoring and blood work results.

Essential Functions and Duties

• Deliver all Respiratory Care procedures as outlined in the department's policy and procedure manual.
• Maintain accurate and complete documentation of all Respiratory Care procedures.
• Verify and implement physician's orders for Respiratory Care.
• Update and complete patient information to reflect the patient's current clinical status, preparing for report times.
• Participate in department in-services, meetings, and patient care rounds.
• Monitor workload and patient acuity, keeping supervisors informed of changes.
• Perform data entry for daily services and charges provided to patients.
• Demonstrate knowledgeable use of Respiratory Care equipment and perform effective troubleshooting.
• Manage airways effectively, assist with intubation, and demonstrate safe suction techniques.
• Guide the orientation and training of new employees and students.
• Conduct arterial blood gas draws.
• Initiate, maintain, and monitor ventilator patients, interpreting flow and pressure volume curves.
• Complete required continuous training and education.
• Adhere to personal protective equipment requirements to ensure safety from potential hazards.
• Verify patient charge reconciliation and ensure timely payroll submissions.
• Maintain proficiency in all modalities offered by cardiopulmonary services.
• Translate medications for neonatal and pediatric doses, addressing special needs based on the patient's condition.
• Assess adult and geriatric patients for specific needs, utilizing appropriate techniques.
• Perform comprehensive patient respiratory assessments to recommend therapeutic interventions.
• Perform other relevant duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age (21 for driving roles, with a valid driver's license).
• U.S. legal work authorization required.
• Must successfully pass a background check and pre-employment drug screening.
• Employee Health meeting completion required before starting employment.

Education, Licensure, and Certification

• Unencumbered License/Certification (if applicable) - Required.
• Graduate of a Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) approved program with Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential - Required.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (or to be obtained within ninety (90) days of hire) - Required.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification (or to be obtained within six (6) months of hire) - Required.

Experience

• RRT with one (1) year of experience in General Respiratory Care and Mechanical Ventilation - Preferred.
• Experience in pulmonary diagnostics - Preferred.
• Knowledge of cardiac diagnostics (EKG, Holter monitor, Event Monitor, Cardiac Stress Testing) - Preferred.
