Residential Counselor

Position: Residential Counselor The Residential Counselor is responsible for delivering wellness and recovery-oriented case management and support services to residents, including skill development, supportive counseling, transportation, crisis intervention, assistance with task completion, vocational and social support. Location Plainfield, New Jersey 07062 (Union County) Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in mental health, health or other human services discipline; or registered nurse license; or combination equaling 4 years. At least one year of related work or life experience if four‑year college degree does not meet the above. License as practical nurse plus two years of related work or life experience; or high school diploma plus four years of related work or life experience. Valid state driver’s license with a safe driving record. Principal Responsibilities On‑site resident supervision or support, including teaching, behavioral modeling, assistance with ADLs, and other tasks. Communicating observations and information about the resident to program manager, RN, DDD case manager, and other treatment team members. Supervising, organizing and supporting recreational or socialization activities for residents. Transportation. Assist residents in self‑administration of medication. Residential counseling. Provide crisis intervention services (excluding crisis counseling). Participate in developing individual habilitation plan and other required assessments. Participate in individual service coordination activities. Document observations, information and services provided in progress notes. Perform all other duties as assigned. Cooperate with Volunteers of America or State of New Jersey Division staff during inspections or investigations.
