Assistant United States Attorney (Bankruptcy) Hiring Organization: USAO District of Oregon Location: 1000 SW Third Avenue, Suite 600, Portland, OR 97204, United States Job ID: 26-OR-12965383-AUSA-CIVIL The United States Attorney's Office for the District of Oregon is seeking an attorney to serve as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Civil Division. The role requires individuals who thrive on challenging litigation and work collaboratively with a team of highly skilled attorneys. Assistant United States Attorneys in the Civil Division represent the federal government and its agencies in civil litigation and appeals before the Ninth Circuit. The selected attorney will primarily handle litigation before federal bankruptcy courts in the district, including representation of federal agency creditors in Chapter 7, 11, 12, and 13 proceedings and adversary proceedings. Responsibilities include legal research, drafting memoranda, responding to discovery, taking and defending depositions, and representing the United States in judicial proceedings. The AUSA may also be assigned other civil defensive or affirmative cases as needs arise; responsibilities will grow in scope with experience. Qualifications Required qualifications: A J.D. degree, active membership in a U.S. bar, and U.S. citizenship. Preferred qualifications: Ability to manage multiple litigation matters simultaneously; experience appearing in court, arbitration, or depositions; trial experience; advanced research and writing skills; proficiency in handling litigation from initial filing through discovery and dispositive motions; independent judgment with awareness of when supervisory input is needed.
