Vice President Clinical Development

Our client is seeking a Vice President, Clinical Development who will report directly to the Chief Medical Officer. This is a senior, physician-facing role centered on clinical development, scientific direction, and medical affairs within the company's Oncology programs. The Vice President, Clinical Development will bring scientific expertise to the design, execution, and interpretation of clinical studies, and will offer scientific direction and oversight while helping lead cross-functional execution alongside the Clinical Operations team. This individual will hold end-to-end scientific ownership of global trial delivery, including authoring protocols, analyzing data, and reporting on trial outcomes, all in alignment with the company's goals, ICH-GCP standards, country-specific regulatory requirements, and internal SOPs. Key Responsibilities: Leads and contributes to discussions on early-stage development and Phase I trials, providing clinical science perspective and reviewing protocol design. Compiles and analyzes data to inform the Clinical Development plan, with the option to delegate research tasks to junior Clinical Scientists. Maintains strong scientific and clinical fluency within assigned therapeutic and disease areas, and supports competitive intelligence efforts. Works alongside Research and Translational Sciences teams on biomarker strategy and pharmacological evaluations. Authors and reviews clinical science materials, including protocol summaries, safety monitoring plans, and investigator brochures. Contributes to regulatory submission content and related documentation. Oversees data review and reporting processes in partnership with Biometrics and Data Management. Reviews safety case narratives and supporting documentation as needed. Serves as the main point of contact for Clinical Development with Clinical Operations and any assigned CRO partners. Authors and reviews abstracts, posters, and materials for scientific conferences and publications. Leadership duties include converting approved strategy into workable clinical protocols, assessing new trial design approaches together with the Head of Operations, co-leading cross-functional trial working groups, and building relationships with clinical sites around the world. Identifies program-wide concerns related to safety, efficacy, and PK/PD, and develops strategic solutions in collaboration with the study team. Presents study findings both internally and externally, including at investigator and sponsor meetings, and provides strategic and scientific input into the wider clinical development pipeline. Qualifications: MD or combined MD/PhD required. At least 10 years of relevant clinical research or clinical trial experience, including a minimum of 5 years of senior-level clinical trial experience within the pharma or biotech industry, with required experience in Oncology programs. Strong capability to communicate complex scientific and medical concepts clearly across varied audiences. Solid understanding of life sciences, medical terminology, and clinical trial processes.
