Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Adult Medical Specialty, Medical Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 1 year License: Active Illinois license or confirmation of application process Certifications: BLS Must-Have: Experience with Central Lines, tracheostomies, and chest tubes. EPIC experience preferred. Description: This role involves providing care to patients in an adult medical specialty unit. The unit includes 56 beds, which are a mix of private and semi-private rooms. Nurse to patient ratios are 1:4-5 during daytime hours and 1:5-6 during nighttime hours. Common patient diagnoses include cellulitis, sepsis, dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, syncope, anemia, uncontrolled diabetes, acute respiratory failure, liver failure, kidney failure, and various behavioral health issues. RNs are not required to titrate drips, but common medications managed in this unit include Heparin and Lasix. A charge nurse is available on each shift but does not take patient assignments. Patient care technicians assist with vital signs, blood sugar checks, bladder scans, and activities of daily living, with a typical ratio of 1:8-10. Respiratory therapy equipment such as Bipap and Cpap are used for patients with sleep apnea. Telemetry is monitored remotely, and RNs can access their monitoring screens via a pack or computer. Shifts are typically three 12-hour shifts, from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM. Every other weekend commitment is required for days, with rotating holiday requirements as well. RNs may be floated to other acute care areas as needed, including nephrology, neurology, orthopedics, and oncology. Professional scrubs of any color are acceptable, and visible tattoos and piercings are restricted to earrings only. Unit-specific orientation will take place over 2-3 shifts. The charting system utilized is EPIC. This position does not require a BSN. The care setting is acute level with Level 1 Trauma.
