Softball Assistant Coach/Director of Operations

Job Overview San José State Athletics is an integral part of the University, promoting the common good through athletic competition. The Softball Assistant Coach/Director of Operations will assist the Head Coach in organizing and managing all phases of a DivisionI Softball program. Responsibilities will include coaching instruction, travel coordination, strength & conditioning support, academic monitoring, alumni relations, competition scheduling, marketing, social media, and community/donor relations. Brief Responsibilities Coach team at practices and competitive events as directed by the Head Coach. Coordinate all team travel and game‑day accommodations for competitions. Assist with budgeting, reconciling expenses, and proposing purchases for the softball program. Assist in building a nationally competitive DivisionI program through marketing and social media promotion. Collaborate with the Head Coach, Athletic Trainers, and Strength & Conditioning Coach to help with team scheduling in and off‑season. Oversee daily maintenance and preparation for practice and competition site. Prepare softball field for practice and competition (e.g., drag/raking/claying/lining). Operate all necessary equipment for field maintenance. Commit to academic goals of the university and follow NCAA and MountainWest Conference rules and guidelines. Demonstrate awareness and experience understanding the diverse needs of student athletes. Assist in all phases of a DivisionI intercollegiate softball program: scheduling, recruiting, travel coordination, budgets, and fundraising. Assist in game‑day operations: marketing, alumni relations, community service, and administrative support. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience playing or coaching softball at the collegiate level. Awareness and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population. Basic knowledge of marketing and social media. Strong organizational and communication skills. Master’s Degree (preferred). Previous NCAA DivisionI playing experience (preferred). At least 1year of NCAA Softball coaching experience.
