Manager, Fleet Security

The Manager, Fleet Security at Holland America Line and Seabourn is responsible for overseeing shipboard and fleet-wide security operations to ensure compliance with international, flag state, U.S., and corporate security regulations. This role involves managing security inspections, training programs, staffing oversight, and the implementation of security systems and protocols. The Manager will work closely with the Senior Director, Fleet Security and Company Security Officer (CSO), as well as shipboard leadership including Captains, Staff Captains, and Ship Security Officers, to maintain a high standard of security readiness and response. The position supports strategic planning, incident management, and regulatory compliance across both brands. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent experience in National or Homeland Security, Maritime Transportation Management, or a related field. A minimum of 5 years of experience in shipboard security, law enforcement, or maritime military service is required. Familiarity with the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code and the Maritime Transportation Security Act (MTSA) is strongly preferred. Strong leadership, analytical, and problem‑solving skills are essential to balance security needs with operational efficiency. The Manager must be capable of developing innovative solutions that protect passengers, crew, and company assets while supporting business objectives. Responsibilities Ship Security Operations Management: Oversee the performance and effectiveness of shipboard security programs across the Holland America Line and Seabourn fleets. Conduct inspections, analyze findings, recommend corrective actions, maintain security systems, enforce protocols, monitor incident trends, implement new technologies, and provide regular reporting and documentation. Port Security Operations: Support the Senior Director in managing security-related risks at ports and destinations. Assess vulnerabilities, maintain countermeasures, collaborate with port facility security officers, monitor global security intelligence, develop port‑specific guidelines, assist in incident response, and evaluate port security contracts. Staff Development, Training and Management: Lead the Fleet Security Trainer and Security Inspector, oversee training programs, monitor staffing levels, conduct performance reviews, participate in recruiting, onboarding, and mentorship, update training content, and foster continuous improvement. Security Policy Development and Compliance: Maintain and update Ship Security Plans (SSPs) and fleet‑wide regulations, interpret guidance from flag states, oversee audits, contribute to policy development, maintain documentation standards, and evaluate policy effectiveness. Strategic Planning Support / Cost Control: Monitor industry trends, analyze incident data, contribute to budget oversight, review contracts, identify cost savings, support technology investments, lead special projects, balance security and finances, and align planning with organizational objectives. Knowledge & Skills Scope: Support the Senior Director, oversee security operations across both brands, coordinate shipboard and shoreside environments, manage inspections, training, and staffing, liaise with ship captains, port security officials, and internal stakeholders, and influence security practices fleet‑wide. Problem solving: Advanced problem‑solving skills to address complex security challenges, analyze incident trends, evaluate infrastructure, develop tailored solutions, anticipate threats, interpret regulatory frameworks, recommend upgrades, resolve staffing gaps, and collaborate across teams. Impact: Significantly impact safety, operational integrity, regulatory compliance, audit readiness, technology advancement, and brand reputation through strategic planning, cost control, and security initiatives. Leadership: Strong leadership to manage security personnel, guide training, oversight staffing, performance reviews, career development, budget oversight, cross‑functional collaboration, and culture of accountability. Requirements Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent in National Security, Homeland Security, Maritime Transportation Management, or related field. Valid certification or documented experience as a Ship Security Officer in accordance with the ISPS Code. Proficiency in security surveillance and screening equipment relevant to maritime operations. Strong computer literacy, including security‑related software and reporting tools. Completion of formal training in maritime security regulations, including the MTSA. Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance or credentials for access to sensitive areas. Eligibility for international travel to ports and destinations. Fluent in English, with strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work flexible hours and travel as required. Minimum of 5 years of direct experience in maritime security operations with demonstrated leadership responsibilities. Track record of managing or supporting security programs in compliance with international maritime regulations such as ISPS and MTSA. Experience in conducting security inspections, audits, and incident investigations. Background in law enforcement or maritime military service with operational security responsibilities. Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor specialized security personnel in a multi‑brand fleet environment. Hands‑on experience with shipboard security systems such as SSAS and surveillance technologies. Familiarity with regulatory reporting, documentation standards, and audit readiness processes. Collaboration experience with cross‑functional teams such as Fleet Personnel, Purchasing, and shipboard leadership. Ability to analyze complex security challenges and develop practical, risk‑based solutions aligned with business and safety goals. Travel Less than 25% shipboard travel, likely. Work Conditions Work primarily in a climate‑controlled environment with minimal safety or health hazard potential. Physical Demands Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time.
