Machinist Toolmaker

Job Description

Job Summary:

Under indirect supervision, the Machinist Tool Maker is responsible for performing complete set of toolmaker skills with all shop equipment (milling, lathe, precision grinding, polishing and fitting) and able to make part to print.

What you will do:

• Studies specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions, and visualizes product to determine materials required and machines to be used to fabricate parts and fixtures.

• Possesses comprehensive knowledge of gages, precision measuring instruments, and all necessary inspection equipment.

• Set up and operate manual and/or CNC mills, lathes, surface grinders, and other shop equipment

• Manufacture precision tooling, fixtures, jigs, holders, and components to tight tolerances (±0.0001")

• Perform tool room work to support production and engineering requirements

• Perform in-process and final inspections using precision measuring instruments

• Use inspection equipment such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, indicators, gauge blocks, bore gauges, and other metrology tools

• Maintain accurate documentation of dimensions and inspection results

• Troubleshoot machining issues and make necessary adjustments

• Maintain clean, safe, and organized work areas

• Assist in production machining or other manufacturing areas as needed

• Perform other duties as assigned.

What sets you apart: Qualifications:

• High School diploma and/or equivalent; minimum six plus years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

• Graduation from certified Tool & Die Apprenticeship program preferred.

• Knowledge of manufacturing, tooling, cutting tools, and machine parts.

• Possess basic math skills and working knowledge of advanced shop mathematics, including trigonometry.

• Ability to read a decimal chart with basic knowledge of fractions and decimals.

• Must be mechanically inclined.

Physical Requirements:

Hearing: Adequate to perform job duties in person, over the telephone, and on the production floor.

Speaking: Must be able to communicate clearly in person, over the telephone, and on the production floor.

Vision: Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including visual examination of manufactured parts and reading information from printed sources and computer screens.

Other: Requires frequent lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted, including assisting co-workers when required. Adequate physical ability including sufficient manual dexterity to perform the requisite manufacturing duties. Requires frequent bending, reaching, repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting and sitting, with some heavy lifting, pushing and pulling exerted regularly throughout a regular work shift.
