Mattos Hospitality is seeking an Assistant General Manager for a new venture opening in New York City in early 2027. Joining during the pre-opening stage, the Assistant General Manager will work closely with the General Manager and leadership team to prepare the operation for opening, build and train the team, and establish the service standards and daily practices that will support the operation.

The venture will include multiple food and beverage experiences and requires a leader who is highly engaged in both service and the day-to-day management of the business. We are looking for a thoughtful and hands-on hospitality professional with strong judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to lead teams with clarity, consistency, and care.

The Role

• Support the General Manager in leading day-to-day operations, with a strong focus on service, hospitality, team performance, and operational standards
• Participate in the pre-opening process, including recruitment, training, systems implementation, service preparation, and opening readiness
• Maintain a consistent presence on the floor, actively leading service and ensuring a high level of hospitality and execution
• Lead pre-service meetings and support clear communication of daily priorities, menu changes, events, and operational updates
• Recruit, train, coach, and develop the FOH team in partnership with the General Manager and Human Resources
• Reinforce service standards, operating procedures, and company policies through ongoing training and consistent follow-through
• Support scheduling, payroll, timekeeping, attendance, and labor management based on business needs and established targets
• Oversee opening and closing procedures and ensure the restaurant is consistently prepared for service
• Partner closely with culinary leadership to maintain clear communication between the kitchen and dining room and support a cohesive experience
• Monitor the guest experience throughout service, respond thoughtfully to feedback, and resolve concerns with sound judgment
• Support private dining, events, and other special services, ensuring strong communication and execution across teams
• Assist with inventory, purchasing, vendor coordination, and other operational controls as assigned
• Maintain an understanding of sales, labor, operating expenses, and other key performance metrics, supporting the General Manager in achieving financial goals
• Ensure compliance with company policies and applicable health, safety, employment, and regulatory requirements
• Address performance and employee matters promptly and professionally in partnership with the General Manager and Human Resources
• Develop emerging leaders through coaching, feedback, and increased ownership
• Foster a culture centered on hospitality, professionalism, collaboration, accountability, and respect
• Step into broader operational leadership as needed and act on behalf of the General Manager in their absence

Experience & Leadership

• Previous experience as an Assistant General Manager, Restaurant Manager, or in a comparable leadership role within a high-quality, full-service restaurant
• Experience supporting a restaurant opening or building an operation from its early stages strongly preferred
• Strong understanding of service, hospitality, restaurant operations, and FOH systems
• Demonstrated ability to lead, train, and develop hourly teams and emerging managers
• Strong floor presence with the ability to lead service calmly and effectively in a fast-paced environment
• Working knowledge of scheduling, payroll, labor management, inventory, and restaurant financial performance
• Highly organized with strong attention to detail and consistent follow-through
• Sound judgment and the ability to address operational and guest-facing challenges thoughtfully and efficiently
• A clear and respectful communicator who works effectively across FOH, culinary, Human Resources, and leadership teams
• Hands-on and comfortable balancing floor leadership with administrative and operational responsibilities
• Collaborative, accountable, and motivated to continue developing as a hospitality leader

Physical Demands

The physical demands for this position include seeing, hearing, speaking, reaching, frequently lifting up to 25 pounds, occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds, standing for extended periods, bending, and moving intermittently throughout working hours.
