Head of Trading Risk & AI

Firm Type: Leading International Proprietary Trading Firm Reports To: Chief Risk Officer / Executive Leadership Team (matrixed) Role Overview A leading multi-strategy trading firm is seeking an experience AI leader to help develop the risk technology function. This is a high visibility position reporting into the global leadership team) to lead the next-generation redesign of the firm’s market risk infrastructure . This role sits at the intersection of risk management, trading, technology, and analytics with a mandate to embed AI-driven analytics, automation, and real-time intelligence across the global risk platform. The position is strategic and hands-on. The successful candidate will modernize how risk is measured, monitored, and acted upon across asset classes, trading styles, and regions. This includes market risk, liquidity risk, counterparty exposure, and intraday risk controls, all delivered through scalable, automated systems. Key Objectives Redesign risk processes to be predictive, automated, and real-time Leverage AI/ML to enhance signal detection, stress testing, and anomaly identification Reduce manual intervention while increasing risk transparency and control Create a unified, firm-wide risk technology framework across strategies Key Responsibilities Risk Platform Architecture Lead the design and implementation of a modern, scalable risk technology stack Integrate real-time risk analytics across trading desks, strategies, and asset classes Ensure robustness, resilience, and low-latency delivery of risk metrics AI & Automation Embed machine learning and advanced analytics into risk monitoring and decision support Develop automated alerts, scenario analysis, and predictive risk indicators Apply AI to areas across market risk, such as drawdown forecasting, tail risk, correlation shifts, and liquidity stress Process Redesign Re-engineer legacy risk workflows to eliminate manual processes and latency Standardize risk frameworks while allowing flexibility for strategy-specific needs Improve governance, auditability, and explainability of risk outputs Stakeholder Partnership Work closely with Traders/Portfolio Managers, Risk Managers, Quants, and Technology teams Translate trading and risk requirements into scalable technical solutions Act as a senior thought partner to firm leadership on risk innovation Leadership & Delivery Lead and mentor a team of risk technologists, quants, and engineers Set development priorities, technical standards, and delivery timelines Drive adoption of new tools and processes across the organization Qualifications & Experience 10+ years of experience in risk technology, quantitative risk, or trading systems Background in banks, hedge funds, proprietary trading firms, or high-frequency environments Strong understanding of market risk, portfolio risk, and intraday exposure management Proven experience applying AI / ML to financial or risk-related problems Strong technical fluency (Python, data platforms, cloud, distributed systems), although this person will have more of a management/leadership remit Ability to operate credibly with senior PMs, risk leadership, and technologists Risk systems architecture AI-driven analytics and automation High-performance trading environments Leadership and stakeholder influence Why This Role Opportunity to reshape risk management at scale within a sophisticated trading platform Direct impact on firm-wide performance, capital efficiency, and downside protection Exposure to cutting-edge AI applications in real trading environments High visibility role with influence across investment, risk, and technology leadership #J-18808-Ljbffr Confidential
