Snowmaking Supervisor

The Snowmaking Supervisor manages all snowmaking operations, personnel, and equipment to provide adequate snow coverage for skiing and snowboarding activities. This position oversees snowmaking crews, monitors weather conditions, maintains equipment, and ensures all operations are conducted safely and efficiently while supporting the resort's operational goals.

Essential Duties

• Plan, coordinate, and supervise all snowmaking activities.
• Monitor weather forecasts, temperatures, humidity, and operational conditions to determine snowmaking opportunities.
• Direct startup, operation, and shutdown of snowmaking systems.
• Prioritize trail and terrain coverage based on resort needs and business objectives.
• Maintain snowmaking logs, production records, and operational reports.

• Hire, train, schedule, and supervise snowmaking personnel.
• Lead and motivate crews during day and night operations.
• Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching.
• Ensure staff compliance with company policies and safety procedures.
• Manage employee scheduling to maintain adequate staffing levels.

• Oversee the operation and maintenance of snow guns, pumps, compressors, hydrants, pipelines, and related equipment.
• Coordinate preventative maintenance and repairs.
• Inspect equipment regularly to ensure optimal performance.
• Work closely with maintenance staff and outside vendors as needed.
• Manage inventory of parts, supplies, and maintenance materials.

• Enforce all OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
• Conduct safety meetings and training sessions.
• Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions.
• Maintain compliance with environmental permits and regulations.

• Work with Mountain Manager to monitor labor, water, and energy usage.
• Manage operational costs while maintaining quality standards.
• Recommend equipment upgrades and efficiency improvements.

• Collaborate with grooming, lift operations, ski patrol, and maintenance departments.
• Communicate operational status and snowmaking progress to management.
• Assist with opening and closing procedures for the ski season.
• Participate in emergency response activities when required.

Qualifications

Required

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 3 years of snowmaking experience, including leadership responsibilities.
• Strong understanding of snowmaking systems and equipment.
• Mechanical and troubleshooting skills.
• Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
• Computer proficiency, including operational tracking systems.
• Ability to make quick decisions under changing weather conditions.
• Budgeting and resource management skills.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and always meet company insurability requirements.

Preferred

• Associate or bachelor's degree in a related field.
• Previous supervisory or management experience at a ski resort.
• Knowledge of automated snowmaking systems.
• Electrical, plumbing, or mechanical certifications.
• First Aid/CPR certification.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work outdoors in extreme winter conditions.
• Walk, climb, and traverse steep terrain.
• Lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
• Flexibility to work extended shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, based on operational demands.
• Ability to operate snowmobiles, ATVs, and utility vehicles.

Compensation

Competitive salary of $22-$25/hour based on experience, plus employee benefits, season pass privileges, and potential bonus opportunities.
