Job Title: RN Surgical PCU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: PCU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 1 year in a similar role License: Active state or compact RN license required Certifications: ACLS BLS NIHSS Must-Have: Ventilator care experience Description: Position requires an RN for Surgical PCU. Shift hours are 4x12s from 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM. EPIC charting experience is required. Weekend requirement may be every other weekend or six weekend shifts in a six-week scheduling block. Requests for time off must be included with the submission. Facility can call off one shift every two weeks. Must work one holiday during the contract period. First-time travelers are accepted. Locals are accepted with radius criteria. Pending licenses from non-compact states are acceptable, provided candidates hold a single-state license. The required clinical skills include: Cardiac monitoring, emergency response, and dysrhythmia interpretation/management. IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care. Ventilator care for chronic trach patients. Medication administration including cardiac drips (no titration). Respiratory support involving nasal cannula, oxygen administration, CPAP, and BiPAP. Rapid Response and Code team activation. Isolation precautions and telemetry settings across various units. Unit details include: Staffing ratios typically at 1:5, with a staffing goal of 1:4. The unit functions as a stepdown from general surgical ICU, with specialty support. There are two beds for chronic trach patients, not considered ICU level of care. The unit is equipped for oxygen support, chest tubes, surgical drains, and other necessary equipment. Interdisciplinary support includes various services such as physical therapy, respiratory services, interpretation services, and pharmacy. The patient population consists of adults and geriatrics. Special procedures include handling chest tubes, IV drips, and various respiratory support methods. Telemetry is remote, with implementation of tele sitting to increase coverage. Travelers may be required to float within skillset. The goal patient care ratio is 4:1, though 5:1 is often practiced. LPN and CNA support is available within the unit.
