Position Overview Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care (UBHC), established in 1971, offers a full continuum of evidence-based behavioral health and addiction services for children, adolescents, adults, and seniors throughout New Jersey. With 1,060 experienced behavioral health professionals and support staff, UBHC provides inpatient, outpatient, partial hospitalization, screening, crisis stabilization, family and caregiver support, community outreach, case management, supportive housing, supported employment, prevention and consultation, employee assistance programs, and a licensed therapeutic school from preschool through high school. Specialty services include a suicide prevention helpline and peer help lines for police, veterans, active military, teachers, mothers of special needs children, and child protective service workers. In FY2016, UBHC treated 16,199 consumers, recorded 24,502 admissions, and contacted 19,441 individual callers through peer support. The organization also serves as the primary mental health training resource for New Jersey’s Departments of Human Services, Children and Families, and Corrections, delivering 16,000 trainings each year. Posting Summary Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a per diem Screening Clinician for the Emergency Screening in Newark within Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care. The primary purpose of the Screening Clinician position is to provide psychiatric emergency services, screening, outreach assessments, and other mental health services. The role requires competence in generic crisis assessment for individuals of all ages and in determining the need for additional professional consultation and an appropriate intervention/disposition plan. Responsibilities Identify the appropriate level of care disposition using DSM‑5 criteria, clinical expertise, and departmental criteria. Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience Master's Degree in a mental health related field from an accredited institution. One (1) year post‑master, full‑time, professional experience in a psychiatric setting. Certifications and Licenses Eligible to receive the New Jersey State Certification as a Mental Health Screener within one (1) year of employment. Driver's license. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Work off‑hours shifts in a 24/7 operation. Work alternate weekends. Preferred Qualifications New Jersey licensure governing the discipline. The position requires flexibility for night, holiday, weekday, weekend, and off‑hours coverage as needed. Physical Demands and Work Environment Frequent prolonged sitting, observing conversations with patients, frequent talking and listening in groups and on the telephone. Frequently walks, bends, stretches, and pulls. Manual dexterity required for charting. Drives to off‑site work locations. May have to work long hours based on clinical demand.
