Position Title Mental Health Clinician III – Part‑Time – Multiple Vacancies (UBHC – CRSC Newark) Overview Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care (UBHC), established in 1971, offers a full continuum of evidence‑based behavioral health and addiction services for children, adolescents, adults, and seniors throughout New Jersey. UBHC’s 1,060 experienced behavioral health professionals and support staff are dedicated to treatment, prevention, and education. As one of the largest providers of behavioral health care in the country, UBHC has a budget of $260 million and operates 15 sites throughout New Jersey. Services include inpatient, outpatient, partial hospitalization, screening, crisis stabilization, family/caregiver support, community outreach and case management, supportive housing, supported employment, prevention and consultation, employee assistance programs, and a licensed therapeutic school from preschool through high school. Specialty services include the New Jersey suicide prevention helpline and peer help lines for police, veterans, active military, teachers, mothers of special‑needs children, and child protective service workers. In FY2016, UBHC treated 16,199 consumers, had 24,502 admissions, and supported 19,441 caller‑initiated peer‑support contacts. UBHC is also the primary mental‑health training resource for the New Jersey departments of Human Services, Children and Families, and Corrections, delivering 16,000 trainings each year. Job Purpose and Key Responsibilities Provide comprehensive evaluation, assessment, and therapeutic intervention to address the psychological, emotional, and social needs of individuals served by the unit. Formulate, implement, and review treatment plans; conduct individual, group, and family therapy. Participate in and contribute to smooth functioning of the department, demonstrating initiative, flexibility, and professionalism. Support an environment that enhances the positive self‑image of individuals served and preserves their human dignity. Apply sound clinical judgment to deliver individual, group, and family therapy. Adapt assessment and treatment processes to accommodate variations in readiness for treatment/change, age, culture, medical, economic, and other relevant factors. Involve individuals and/or family members in assessment, treatment plan creation, and plan reviews as clinically indicated. Identify appropriate resources for individuals and families based on assessed needs; perform case‑management functions; complete all required forms, correspondence, and reports to ensure coordinated treatment services via linkages, service procurement, referrals, patient advocacy, and state/community systems. Formulate timely, appropriate treatment plans reflecting input from individuals and caregivers, with realistic, measurable objectives oriented toward wellness and recovery, consistent with Clinical Records standards and prescribed time frames. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Master’s Degree in a mental‑health discipline. Licensure to practice as required by New Jersey state laws governing the discipline. For applicants with a social‑work degree, an active New Jersey certification/licensure as required by the State Board of Social Work. Physical Demands and Work Environment PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to speak clearly and write/type proficiently; implement universal precautions and safety precautions; extended sitting required to provide treatment and prepare clinical documentation. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Moderate noise (typical office, computers, printers, light traffic); subject to unpredictable situations and medical/psychiatric crises; possible exposure to patients exhibiting assaultive behaviors; possible exposure to bloodborne pathogens requiring use of personal protective equipment; possible exposure to varying or extreme temperatures; community‑based duties may require travel and exposure to varied environments.
