Food Service Cook

Job Posting Food Service Cook Vicksburg Community Schools 2026-2027 School Year Salary: Per VESPA Contract Position Summary We are seeking a dedicated individual to add to our food service team as a Cook. This position works 6:30am-1:30pm, Mon-Fri, student days only, approximately 35 hours per week. Responsibilities Prepare and cook meals according to established menus and nutritional guidelines Assist with food preparation, including washing, chopping, and portioning ingredients Ensure proper food handling, storage, and sanitation practices are followed Maintain cleanliness of kitchen equipment, work areas, and serving spaces Support meal service and interact positively with students and staff Monitor inventory and assist with ordering supplies as needed Follow all health department and school district regulations General kitchen tasks as assigned by the kitchen supervisor and food service director. *The above duties and responsibilities are intended to be representative of the nature of the work by this position. The listing is not all-inclusive. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent is required. Must be ServSafe certified; or obtain ServSafe certification within 90 days of hire Must have a good attendance record. Must possess good decision-making skills. Must be flexible in work assignments. Must have experience in the preparation of school meals. Must have a commitment to working as a team to achieve goals. Must demonstrate sociability and warmth in attitude toward students, other employees, and the supervisor. Must have a moderate level of math skills and be able to operate computerized machines. Must pass background checks and comply with state and district requirements for working with students. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, bend, reach, and move about the building and campus to assist students. May require and employee to lift and/or move heavy objects (up to 50lbs).
