Location & Hours City/State: Nyack, New York Department: 4 Maze Bargaining Unit: NH-SEIU-1199 Work Shift: Evening (2:30PM-11:00PM) Work Days: Alternate weekends, alternate work schedule, days vary, rotating schedule Scheduled Hours: 8 hours per day Hours Per Pay Period: 40 hours Hourly Rate/Range: $23.34 (subject to change based on shift differential, experience, education, or other factors) Job Summary The Patient Care Associate is responsible for performing assigned patient care tasks under the supervision of the Registered Nurse. The PCA assists with patient care as delegated by the RN and in accordance with hospital policies and procedures. The PCA carries out various clinical responsibilities as well as documentation of tasks and supports and upholds the Patient Bill of Rights. In certain areas of assignment and after competence is established the PCA III performs the duties of a Monitor Technician. Essential Functions Perform direct nursing tasks such as taking vital signs, assisting with activities of daily living, and assisting with personal hygiene needs. Collect and chart data, including vital signs, heights, weights, nutritional intake, and fluid intake/output; report pertinent changes in the patient’s condition to the Registered Nurse. Assist patients with nutritional needs, set up and deliver food trays, assist with feeding if necessary, and refill water and ice; assist with mobility, turning, positioning, transferring to and from a wheelchair, and ambulation. Perform phlebotomy via venous puncture, obtain certain lab specimens, perform EKG and report results to the RN; perform finger‑stick blood‑glucose testing and report results. Comply with hospital safety regulations, environment of care, risk management, and infection‑control policies; maintain a clean, safe environment. Perform delegated or specialized functions as educationally prepared; may handle patient medications for transport and retrieval purposes only. Participate in committees and task forces as requested. Perform other duties as assigned within classification. Assist with the orientation process of new PCAs. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. Less than 1 year previous health‑care experience required. Required certifications: Certified Nurse’s Assistant, Certified Patient Care Technician, or current enrollment in a nursing program (highly preferred). Preferred: Demonstrated experience and competence in phlebotomy and EKG. Preferred: Monitor Technician experience if applicable to assignment area. Full command of English language. Physical ability and perceptive acuity adequate to perform patient care functions. PCA I: Successful completion of PCA orientation and skills competency checklist within first 3 months; proficiency in EKG, phlebotomy, and blood glucose monitoring. PCA II: 1 year experience as a PCA at Montefiore Nyack Hospital; satisfactory performance appraisal. PCA III: Must meet one of the following: National certification in phlebotomy. Attendance at a preceptor training course. Completion of dysrhythmia course. or Assigned to TCU with NYS CNA certification required. PCA IV: In addition to all above – 2 years experience, performance appraisal ≥2.35, precept at least 2 PCAs after training, BLS certification within 30 days.
