POSITION SUMMARY
This is a hands-on, individual-contributor role for a seasoned Senior IT Project Manager who can step into an environment with some ambiguity, build credibility quickly, and drive multiple concurrent projects forward with minimal day-to-day direction. You'll partner closely with infrastructure, facilities, and enterprise applications teams, as well as global (US/UK) stakeholders, and will work alongside a less-tenured project manager who is still building her own leadership experience - so this role calls for a collaborative, tactful style rather than a top-down or heavy-handed approach.
This is a Contract engagement based in Denver, CO, with a hybrid work model (in-office as needed). Initial term is approximately 6 months, with a strong likelihood of extension.
Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship.
RESPONSIBILITIES

• Own delivery of a portfolio of concurrent IT projects - predominantly infrastructure initiatives such as an in-progress Windows environment upgrade and facility/data center build-outs, with potential involvement in enterprise application projects.
• Rapidly assess in-flight and newly assigned projects to establish scope, ownership, and a practical delivery plan, particularly where priorities or roles are still evolving.
• Build and maintain project plans, schedules, RAID logs, decision logs, and status reporting using the organization's project management tooling (currently Smartsheet).
• Identify risks, issues, and dependencies early; drive mitigation and escalate with clear options, impacts, and recommendations.
• Facilitate project and stakeholder meetings, document decisions, and ensure accountable follow-through.
• Coordinate cross-functional teams and global stakeholders, including close collaboration with UK-based colleagues across overlapping time zones.
• Partner with facilities, infrastructure, and enterprise applications leaders to sequence work and align delivery timelines.
• Ensure infrastructure deliverables stay aligned with the timelines and functional needs of adjacent, highly technical initiatives elsewhere in the organization.
• Provide informal coaching and support to a newer project manager who is still building her own leadership experience, without formal supervisory authority.
• Communicate clearly and tactfully to stakeholders at all levels - from delivery teams to senior IT leadership - translating technical detail into business impact and next steps.
• Apply Waterfall, Agile, Kanban, or hybrid delivery approaches as fit for each initiative, rather than imposing a single methodology.
• Leave project records, dashboards, and working practices in a clear, sustainable state to support long-term PMO continuity.
• Support vendor coordination and budget/PO tracking as delegated.
• Bring structure to ambiguous or loosely defined initiatives without introducing unnecessary process overhead.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE

• 8+ years of progressive project management experience leading complex enterprise IT initiatives.
• Demonstrated success stepping into projects already in flight and creating clarity and structure in ambiguous or fast-changing environments, with minimal day-to-day direction.
• Hands-on experience with infrastructure-related project types, including:
  • OS or platform upgrades and migrations (e.g., Windows environment upgrades)
  • Data center or facility build-outs
  • Vendor and telecom coordination
• Experience coordinating globally distributed stakeholders across countries and time zones (UK/US overlap a plus).
• Strong command of project planning, governance, risk and issue management, change control, and executive-level reporting.
• Primarily a project-management-focused skill set (roughly 60-70% PM / 30-40% technical) - comfortable orchestrating delivery through technical subject matter experts rather than performing hands-on technical work.
• Exceptional facilitation, written communication, stakeholder management, and conflict-resolution skills, with a collaborative rather than directive leadership style.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.

ADDITIONAL PLUS

• Hands-on experience with Smartsheet, including project plans, dashboards, reports, and portfolio-level visibility.
• Experience in a science-led, engineering, deep-technology, or research-driven environment.
• PMP, PRINCE2, Agile, Scrum, or similar project management certification.
• Track record supporting or mentoring less experienced project managers.
• A broad, varied portfolio of project types and domains across your career, reflecting adaptability rather than deep specialization in one area.
• Experience supporting PMO process maturity, reporting standardization, or portfolio visibility improvements.

SALARY / WAGE RANGE
$60.00-80.00/hour
Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies, location, and experience, and may fall outside of the range shown.
