STARTING HOURLY RATE: $20.20 - $21.13 (PLACEMENT DEPENDS ON SIMILAR EXPERIENCE HELD AND EDUCATION)

SUMMARY:

The Safety Assistant, Senior maintains a safe learning and working environment for all students and staff on school campuses by monitoring activities and addressing safety concerns. Protects and secures all District property at the campus level. Directs safety staff in the absence of Campus Safety Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Monitors campus activities and events; upholds all campus and District rules and regulations Works closely with the Campus Safety Supervisor (CSS) to support site schedules for overtime, drills, and schedule adjustments for absences. Appropriately assists the dispatch/base unit, as well as the CSS, for appropriate response to calls, emails, teacher requests, student removal for referrals, student statements, and peer mediation. Communicates and works with all departments on campus. Builds positive relationships with students and staff; supports a positive campus climate. Escorts disruptive students from classroom to Administration office, supervises students awaiting interventions. Coordinates fire and safety inspections of buildings; tests safety equipment and identifies hazards. Participates in mandatory District/local in-service training programs. Monitors and assesses campus buildings and grounds to ensure that only students with valid ID's or authorized persons are on campus and students do not leave campus grounds without authorization. Builds positive relationships with students and staff; supports a positive campus climate. Informs Dispatch/Base, Campus Safety Supervisor or Safety Assistant of campus activities. May be required to assist safety teams at other District sites as needed. Supports the relationship between the Phoenix Union High School District and the public by demonstrating courteous and professional behavior when interacting with students, parents, visitors, and school staff; maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, client records, and school information; follows Governing Board Policies; performs all other related duties as required or assigned. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines: High School diploma or GED equivalent; AND three years of experience in security or a related field; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must be at least 21 years of age. License and Certification Requirements: A valid Arizona State Driver's License is required. Must possess current Red Cross first aid certificate and CPR certificate at time of employment or obtain within first 60 days of employment and maintain on a current status. Possess an active Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card or obtain one within the first 90 workdays of employment. IDEAL CANDIDATES WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING SKILLS AND ABILITIES Skill in planning, prioritizing, and completing assignments with minimum supervision. Skill in writing professional reports and correspondence from brief instructions. Skill in mediating and resolving conflicts. Skill in understanding, explaining, and applying relevant rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Skill in following and enforcing safety policies, procedures, and practices. Ability to diffuse physical altercations safely. Ability to identify safety hazards and suspicious persons on school campus. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and procedures. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to provide excellent customer experiences, including but not limited to interacting tactfully and courteously with the public. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed throughout school campuses and requires exposure to various weather conditions. May be exposed to potential physical harm, contagious illnesses, and bodily fluids.
