Our organization is looking for a dedicated Physician Assistant to become a part of our Cardiothoracic Surgery team. This role involves collaborating with a team of five Physician Assistants who provide surgical, inpatient, and outpatient care. You will work closely with three cardiothoracic surgeons, one surgical fellow, four other surgical PAs, and two nurse coordinators. The main focus of this position is to serve as a proficient first assistant in the operating room during intricate congenital cardiac surgeries. While prior surgical experience is advantageous, we are open to training a driven candidate who demonstrates a strong work ethic.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in complex congenital cardiac surgeries as a first assistant in the operating room.
• Perform various postoperative procedures, including but not limited to:
  • Chest tube removal
  • RA line removal
  • Pacing wire removal
  • Suture removal
  • Wound checks
  • Wound vac changes
• Engage in surgery consultations, preoperative clearance appointments, and postoperative follow-ups.
• Participate in call responsibilities limited to OR case coverage and surgical bedside procedures (no primary/floor call or routine weekend rounding).

Qualifications and Skills:

• Must be a graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program and hold NCCPA certification. Eligibility for licensure as a PA in Arizona is required.
• Strong verbal, written, and oral communication abilities.
• Proven leadership skills.
• Willingness to adapt schedules to accommodate patient and staff needs.
• Effective time management and stress management skills, with the ability to adjust to unpredictable situations in patient care.
• Preferred clinical experience of two to five years.
• Experience in primary care, acute care, and/or surgical settings is preferred.
• Proficient computer skills, particularly in Electronic Medical Records.

Licensure and Certification Requirements:

• Must possess Arizona licensure as a Physician Assistant under the supervision of a physician upon hire.
• Maintain prescribing and dispensing privileges in Arizona.
• Provide proof of application for a DEA certificate upon hire, obtain the certificate within 90 days, and maintain it thereafter unless waived by the department/division.
• Must present evidence of BLS, PALS, and ACLS certifications from the American Heart Association.
