Job Title: Electrician (Low Voltage and Medium Voltage Construction) Job Description
This role focuses on industrial and data-center construction, installing and commissioning low-voltage and medium-voltage electrical infrastructure in new-build environments. You will work as a traveling construction electrician, building, terminating, and energizing systems from detailed drawings and turning completed installations over to operations teams. The position is hourly with overtime opportunities and requires extensive travel on a rotational basis.
Responsibilities
Install and terminate new low-voltage electrical infrastructure including conduit, cable tray, underground duct bank, cable, wire, and 480 V building and feeder work.
Perform hands-on work on 415 V and/or 480 V systems such as switchgear, busway, PDUs/UPS, main switchboards (MSBs), and grounding systems.
Build, pull, land, torque, and energize new electrical equipment from construction drawings, one-line diagrams, manuals, and work packages, then turn completed systems over to operations.
Follow NFPA 70E requirements and lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, including MV switching and clearance practices in accordance with OSHA 1910.269.
Support first energization of new 480 V systems by applying proper grounding and safety protocols.
Install medium-voltage infrastructure including e-house medium-voltage switchgear (MVSG), generator step-up transformers (GSUs), 15 kV and 35 kV cable, and duct bank for campus systems at 12.47 kV, 13.8 kV, and 34.5 kV.
Support hipot and very low frequency (VLF) testing of medium-voltage cable and equipment and work adjacent to live campus buses while maintaining strict safety practices.
Use construction blueprints, schematics, and work packages to plan and execute electrical installations and terminations accurately and efficiently.
Operate and maintain proficiency with common electrical test tools such as multimeters, meggers, and ammeters, as well as construction hand and power tools.
Work as part of an internal construction team, mobilizing with project teams to active data-center construction sites and moving with the work as new facilities come online.
Perform physical construction work including lifting 50+ lbs, working at heights and in confined spaces, and working outdoors in all weather conditions.
Work nights, weekends, and extended shifts as required during construction and energization phases to meet project schedules.
Travel 80% or more on a construction rotation, adhering to site-specific requirements and making effective use of per diem and housing arrangements.
Essential Skills
Minimum of 5+ years of industrial or data-center electrical construction experience installing conduit, tray, duct bank, cable, and 480 V terminations.
State journeyman electrician license for low-voltage inside-wireman work.
At least 5+ years of medium-voltage construction experience at 5 kV or above; 415/480 V experience alone does not qualify as medium voltage.
Documented experience with 15 kV and/or 35 kV terminations, supported by resume details or manufacturer terminator cards.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, one-line diagrams, manuals, schematics, and work packages.
Hands-on construction skills including installing from prints, making terminations, landing and torquing conductors, and performing physical electrical construction work.
Working knowledge of NFPA 70E and lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures; familiarity with OSHA 1910.269 for medium-voltage switching and clearance.
Proficiency with common electrical test tools such as multimeters, meggers, and ammeters.
Ability to lift 50+ lbs, work at heights, work in confined spaces, and perform tasks outdoors in all weather conditions.
Willingness to work in an hourly position with overtime, including nights, weekends, and extended shifts during construction and energization.
Ability and willingness to travel 80% or more on a construction rotation, with readiness to work on multiple active construction sites.
Comfort working in industrial and data-center construction or commissioning environments rather than facilities maintenance, service, or plant operations.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience specifically in industrial or data-center construction or commissioning environments.
Exposure to low-voltage inside-wireman work and familiarity with 415 V and 480 V systems including switchgear, busway, PDUs/UPS, MSBs, and grounding.
Experience installing and commissioning e-house medium-voltage switchgear (MVSG), generator step-up transformers (GSUs), and medium-voltage cable at 15 kV and 35 kV.
Experience supporting hipot and VLF testing of medium-voltage systems and working adjacent to live buses on campus MV systems at 12.47 kV, 13.8 kV, and 34.5 kV.
Comfort with a traveling construction role that involves rotations, per diem, and housing while on site.
Openness to an hourly compensation structure with overtime and extended shifts during critical project phases.
Strong safety mindset and adherence to NFPA 70E, LOTO, and OSHA 1910.269 requirements.
Ability to work effectively as part of a mobile internal construction team on fast-paced data-center build projects.
Why Work Here?
You will join a high-impact construction team driving the rapid build-out of modern data centers, working with advanced low-voltage and medium-voltage technologies in complex industrial environments. The role offers consistent overtime opportunities and a structured travel rotation with per diem and housing support while on site. Once you become a permanent employee, you will receive $25,000 in equity that vests over four years25% after the first year and 6.25% each quarter thereafterproviding meaningful long-term ownership and financial upside as you grow with the organization.
