Senior Accountant

J19 Investment Company is building a private equity real estate investment platform with plans to grow from approximately $50 million in assets under management to $1 billion. We're looking for a CPA who wants to be part of that growth from an early stage. You'll work directly with the firm's three principals and take ownership of the accounting across the investments held within our funds. This is a hands‑on role in a small, fast-moving team making new investments on a regular basis. Compensation Equity upside Opportunity to grow with the firm What You'll Be Doing Your primary responsibility will be the accounting for the individual investments held within our funds. Our fund administrator handles the fund‑level accounting. You'll work closely with the fund administrator while owning the accounting and financial reporting for the underlying investments. You'll own the accounting for the individual investments held within our funds, with three primary areas of responsibility: Investment Accounting & Reporting – Own the books, monthly and quarterly closes, financial statements, reconciliations, and reporting across multiple investments and entities. New Investment Integration – Establish and integrate the accounting for new investments as they are acquired, ensuring accurate books, controls, and processes from day one. Fund Administrator Coordination – Work closely with our fund administrator, who handles fund‑level accounting, to ensure accurate and timely investment‑level financial information flows into fund reporting. The Volume This is a high‑volume environment. We're making new investments regularly, which means the number of entities and transactions you'll be responsible for will continue to grow. You'll be the first accounting hire and will have the opportunity to help establish the accounting function as the firm scales. You'll need to be comfortable managing multiple closes, competing deadlines, new investment activity, and a growing number of entities at the same time. Accuracy matters. Speed matters. You'll work directly with the three principals and have visibility into the investments and financial decisions being made across the firm. As J19 grows from approximately $50 million to $1 billion in AUM, the accounting function will grow with it. This is an opportunity to establish that function early and participate in the upside through equity. The workload will reflect the pace of the business. There will be periods where new investments, reporting deadlines, and month‑end overlap, and this role requires someone comfortable putting in the time necessary to get the work done accurately and on schedule. Qualifications Active CPA license required Bachelor's degree in Accounting required 5+ years of progressive accounting experience Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting Experience accounting for investments, multiple entities, partnerships, or complex ownership structures strongly preferred Experience working with fund administrators or investment structures is a plus Advanced Microsoft Excel skills Strong understanding of financial statements and general ledger accounting Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills Ability to independently manage a high volume of work and competing deadlines Strong communication skills and sound professional judgment The Environment This is an in‑person position in downtown Austin, Texas. You'll join a small team at an early stage of growth and work directly with the people making investment decisions.
