Mechanical Engineer II - ALE - Strategic Strike

Position Overview Mechanical Engineer II – Air Launched Effectors (ALE) – Strategic Strike Location: Tucson, AZ (Onsite) Citizenship: U.S. Citizen (U.S. Person) required. Security Clearance: Secret – existing clearance required (active and transferable at start date). Responsibilities Provide technical ownership and execution of tasks, serving as prime technical contact for complex design, manufacture, integration, and production sustainment of mechanical subsystems both in the engineering lab and factory floor. Communicate with cross‑disciplinary engineering team members and suppliers to analyze, model, and document design technical data packages (TDP) and ensure compliance with requirements. Mentor junior engineers, providing technical guidance within the mechanical discipline. Work autonomously with limited supervision, acting as responsible engineer for major hardware subsystems and leading small teams of junior engineers. Perform mechanical design, development, and documentation of components, sub‑assemblies, and major end items in accordance with system requirements. Collaborate with Raytheon factories and suppliers on new product integration and manufacturing process improvements. Perform tolerance analysis to ensure proper form, fit, and function. Improve designs using Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) and Design for Producibility principles. Support production of mechanical sub‑systems at internal factories and suppliers. Support first hardware builds and first article inspections. Review manufacturing process instructions and support material review board dispositions. Perform root‑cause investigations on production‑related hardware issues. Qualifications University degree (Bachelor’s) in Mechanical Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience, plus at least 2 years of relevant experience. Experience in mechanical design and design documentation. Experience with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) per ANSI Y14.5. Experience with CREO (Pro/ENGINEER) or similar 3D solid modeling software. Strong mechanical aptitude and problem‑solving skills. Leadership experience leading small teams (4‑6 people). Supplier interaction and supplier management experience. Ability to work in teams or independently, flexible and proactive. Experience in mechanical subsystem packaging, materials, thermal, structural analysis, energetics principles, control systems, interconnect, airframe or large assembly development. Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written). Experience with PTC Windchill Product Data Management or equivalent configuration/data management software. Ability to travel to government and supplier facilities as required. Benefits Competitive salary range: $68,900 – $131,100 USD.
