2026-27 Custodian III - Cactus View ES

Purpose Statement: The job of Custodian III is to support the educational process by providing custodial services at an assigned elementary school. Responsibilities include ensuring a safe, attractive, and sanitary environment for students, staff, and visitors, performing special cleaning operations, preparing facilities for classroom activities and campus events, scheduling contracted custodians, and ensuring complete and proper performance of tasks. Location: Cactus View Elementary School Employment: 10 months, 8 hours/day Grade: 13, $15.44/hour Non-Interim Position Dates: 07/01/2026 – 06/30/2027 Reporting to: Building Administrator and Supervisor of Custodial and Grounds Essential Functions Attend unit meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc. to gather information required to perform job functions. Clean assigned facilities and/or grounds (classrooms, offices, gym, restrooms, multipurpose rooms, etc.) to maintain a sanitary, safe, and attractive environment. Consult with administrative personnel to plan, prioritize, and schedule custodial activities and achieve site maintenance objectives. Coordinate facility preparation with contracted custodial services for extracurricular and community activities (e.g., setting up rooms, opening doors, preparing the multipurpose room) to deliver services efficiently. Deliver various items (supplies, mail, packages, furniture, etc.) to the appropriate parties within the site. Inspect facilities to ensure suitability for safe operations, maintain an attractive and clean condition, and identify necessary repairs. Maintain documents, files, and records (custodial schedules, inventory records, calendar of events, etc.) to provide an up-to-date reference. Maintain supplies and equipment (cleaning solutions, paper products, vacuums, mops, etc.) to ensure availability of custodial items. Monitor students and staff in and around work areas (halls, multipurpose rooms, lunch rooms, restrooms, grounds, etc.) to prevent injuries and ensure safety. Order equipment, supplies, and materials to maintain availability and complete jobs efficiently while respecting budgets. Perform minor maintenance repairs and tasks (e.g., changing lights, adjusting timers, moving furniture, replacing ballasts, unclogging toilets) to maintain a safe and sanitary environment. Prepare the site for daily operations (opening gates, raising flags, sweeping walkways) to ensure facilities are operational and hazard-free. Prepare written materials (supply requisitions, safety inspections, work orders, inventory records) to document activities and communicate with administration. Respond to inquiries from staff, students, parents, and visitors to provide information, take appropriate action, or direct personnel for resolution. Respond to immediate safety and/or operational concerns (facility damage, vandalism, alarms) to take action or notify appropriate personnel. Schedule facility maintenance activities and assigned contracted services personnel to direct services efficiently. Support other site maintenance staff (grounds, trades, etc.) to complete custodial activities. Support a variety of campus work projects (Community Education, PTA, PTO, contractors) to complete activities or deliver services timely. Train assigned personnel (equipment handling, chemical use) to develop professional trade and safety awareness, ensuring work goals are met. Transport tools, equipment, supplies to ensure availability at the job site. Other Functions Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit. Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Skills: Monitor electrical and mechanical systems (fire and security alarms); operate equipment and materials used in industrial maintenance; assemble and repair office/classroom equipment; operate a computer and relevant software; and prepare and maintain accurate records. Knowledge: Basic math (fractions, percentages, ratios); understand written procedures, write routine documents, speak clearly; comprehend complex, multi‑step written and oral instructions; guidelines for storage and use of chemicals; industrial cleaning methods (floor, carpet); basic tools for minor repairs; general maintenance tasks (plumbing, electrical, painting); safety practices and procedures. Ability: Schedule activities, meetings, events; gather and collate data; consider factors when using equipment; flexibility to work with others; handle a wide diversity of individuals; problem‑solve and create action plans; adapt to changing priorities; meet deadlines; maintain rapport with students, staff, and community. Responsibility Working under direct supervision using standardized procedures; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; utilizing resources from other work units as necessary. Work Environment Physical demands include significant lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, some climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and fine finger dexterity. 10% sitting, 80% walking, 10% standing.
