Position Description:


Analyzes business processes, data flows, and system behavior to support the development, enhancement, and implementation of technology solutions in the life insurance and personal investing domain. Gathers and refines requirements, performs detailed data and system analysis, validates functionality, and documents specifications. Partners with architects to translate a strategy into robust, scalable, secure, and maintainable systems solutions on domain, application and integration architectures, including API first domain-driven design (DDD) and patterns. Supports solution delivery across complex application ecosystems. Translates line of business strategy into target capabilities and system roadmaps. Collaborates with cross-functional teams while maintaining a strong focus on accuracy, technical depth, and continuous improvement. Provides analysis leadership on complex systems analysis projects, often across subsystems and companies, in a matrix organization. Consults with business users to develop recommendations that address difficult and complex business needs and opportunities.


Primary Responsibilities:

• Conducts business and systems analysis using stakeholder inputs, use cases, and user stories within Agile environments.

• Drives value mapping and cost/benefit analyses by refining complex business needs.

• Analyzes and validates data using structured queries and enterprise data sources within large dataset environments.

• Evaluates data integration needs and supports Extract Transform Load (ETL) activities within cloud based data frameworks.

• Analyzes system interfaces using common data formats and schema definition techniques within distributed systems.

• Executes API testing and validation within continuous integration pipelines.

• Ensures APIs follow industry best practices for token security, expiration, refresh mechanisms, and access control.

• Creates and maintains context diagrams, domain models, data flow diagrams, sequence diagrams, state machines, and interface specifications (REST, GraphQL, and event schemas), error models, and versioning strategies within a version controlled environment.

• Defines logical data models, data lineage, PII classification, retention, and data quality rules.

• Maintains standards and guardrails, reuses patterns and playbooks, and measures outcomes.

• Supports infrastructure and configuration analysis using automation and Infrastructure as Code practices within cloud architectures.

• Troubleshoots defects and issues using diagnostic tools and root cause techniques within test and production environments.

• Ensures requirements to test coverage and defines acceptance test scenarios with QA automation.

• Executes test planning and test activities using structured testing practices.

• Ensures observability (logs, metrics, traces, and SLOs/SLIs), feature flags, circuit breakers, and runbooks.

• Mentors junior analysts.

• Analyzes system functionality for new or enhanced product features using business rules, data insights, and domain knowledge within financial services workflows.

• Aligns change management (CAB, feature toggles, and phased rollouts/blue green/canary), incident playbooks, and post incident reviews.

• Evaluates vendors, and defines SLAs, SOW requirements, interoperability, data ownership, and compliance.

Education and Experience:


Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and five (5) years of experience as a Principal Systems Analyst (or closely related occupation) translating complex financial products and regulatory requirements into reliable and scalable life insurance and personal investing systems.


Or, alternatively, Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and three (3) years of experience as a Principal Systems Analyst (or closely related occupation) translating complex financial products and regulatory requirements into reliable and scalable life insurance and personal investing systems.


Skills and Knowledge:


Candidate must also possess:

• Demonstrated Expertise ("DE") coordinating projects with a focus on event driven microservices architecture, monitoring logs, and performing end-to-end testing, using REST APIs, SQL/NoSQL databases, Snowflake, and AWS; and executing data integration and transformation using Extract-Transform-Load (ETL) pipelines and cloud based services within a cloud data processing environment.

• DE creating comprehensive context diagrams, domain models, data flow diagrams, sequence diagrams, and state machines to clarify processes, using Microsoft Visio and Draw.io; sending release communications and coordinating stakeholders for validation during installs, using Postman, Bruno, Splunk, Datadog, vendor dashboards, Snowflake, and SQL; and implementing Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) process (adhering to data security standards) for bulk analysis file transfers, using AWS S3 buckets, MFT Axway, SFTP, and SSH encryption.

• DE creating access file feeds, designing access controls, coordinating user access permissions, and conducting training sessions to facilitate smooth product adoption and effective usage, using Excel, Confluence, PowerBI, IntelliJ, and GitHub; and assisting the correct mapping of schemas using Snowflake, Microsoft SQL, eXtensible Markup Language (XML), JavaScript Object Notation (JSON), XML Schema Definition (XSD), AWS Lambda, Informatica, REST API, and SOAP UI.

• DE conducting business and systems analysis using stakeholder interviews, use cases, user stories, and functional specifications within Agile Scrum environments, supporting life insurance and personal investing workflows.

Fidelity's Onsite Working Model
Fidelity is transitioning to a full-time onsite working model through a phased rollout across regions and roles. Currently, some roles and locations require 100% onsite presence, while others require less. Onsite expectations are likely to evolve as the rollout continues.
