Project Accounting Manager

Kforce has a client that is seeking a Project Accounting Manager in Sterling, VA. Summary: The Project Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the financial management and accounting activities for a portfolio of projects. This role partners with project managers and business leaders to ensure accurate project reporting, budgeting, forecasting, billing, revenue recognition, and compliance with company policies. Key Responsibilities:

• Manage the financial performance of multiple projects from inception through completion
• Monitor project budgets, costs, revenue, profitability, and cash flow
• Review project financial results and provide variance analysis
• Oversee project billing and ensure timely, accurate invoicing
• Monitor accounts receivable and assist with collections efforts
• Ensure accurate revenue recognition and job cost reporting
• Prepare and review project-related journal entries and account reconciliations
• Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities
• Collaborate with project managers to identify financial risks and opportunities
• Review contracts, change orders, and project modifications for financial impact
• Maintain strong internal controls and accounting procedures
• Support internal and external audits
• Supervise and mentor project accounting staff, as applicable
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
• 5+ years of project accounting experience
• Experience with ERP systems and financial reporting tools
• Strong understanding of job costing, budgeting, forecasting, and revenue recognition
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
• Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills

• CPA, CMA, or MBA preferred
• Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred
• Experience in construction, engineering, government contracting, consulting, or professional services environments
• Familiarity with fixed-price, time-and-materials, and cost-plus contracts
