As an epidemiologist II on the Communicable Disease Surveillance and Outbreak Team, you will be responsible for a variety of communicable disease surveillance activities in Maricopa County by compiling and analyzing data, producing data summary reports and visualizations, and building disease surveillance tools. Work With Us | Maricopa County, AZ We Require Two years of experience performing epidemiological or statistical analysis Master's degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, or a closely related public health field A combination of post-secondary education and/orjob-related experience may substitute for theminimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis Job Contributions Supports the Office with complex disease and outbreak investigations, provides County public health guidance, and troubleshoots issues with public health surveillance systems Develops protocols for managing databases and identifies opportunities for improving data quality Uses statistical software, such as SAS or R, to analyze public health data and identify significant associations between exposures and outcomes Fulfills complex data requests and produces epidemiological reports for internal and external stakeholders Supports the development of small-scale public health surveys, sampling methodology, and data management processes, and best practices Provides training to Epidemiologists and Communicable Disease Investigators on MCDPH protocols, processes, and best practices Collaborates with local, state, regional, and national-level partners to maintain and improve public health surveillance systems, data quality, and situational awareness Participates in emergency preparedness exercises, contributes to enhanced surveillance activities, and responds to incidents of public health significance, as assigned Working Conditions Position is primarily office-based with extensive computer work using various moderately complex databases, working under stressful conditions related to death and disease, and strict adherence to confidentiality policies is required Valid Arizona driver's license is required upon hire Must be able to participate in emergency response training as scheduled and be available as directed in the event of a public health emergency Within one month of hire, all employees are required to provide evidence of immunity or receive immunizations for vaccine-preventable illnesses for any position within the Maricopa County Department of Public Health; required immunizations include MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), Tdap (whooping cough and diphtheria), Varicella (chickenpox), and annual Influenza; some positions require a Hepatitis B vaccine and/or a Tuberculosis test Selection Procedure Consideration will only be given to candidates who submit online applications Candidates will be contacted primarily through email and their Workday online application profile Must pass a pre-employment background and/or fingerprint investigation as required by statute or policy, including drug and alcohol testing requirements for positions designated as safety-sensitive Maricopa County is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to providing equal employment opportunities to all applicants.
