Sr Principal HW Performance Architect

Salary: $61,000 - 101,000 per year Requirements:

• We require formal architecture training or certification, along with 10+ years of relevant applied experience.
• We need extensive experience leading infrastructure or platform architecture initiatives in large-scale technology organizations, ideally at Senior Principal Architect, Distinguished Engineer, or Chief Architect level.
• We need deep expertise in on-premises compute infrastructure, including bare-metal provisioning, hypervisor technologies such as VMware, KVM, or Hyper-V, and full virtual machine lifecycle management.
• We need practical experience spanning system design, platform engineering, application development, testing, and operational stability in complex infrastructure environments.
• We need production experience designing and running Kubernetes, OpenShift, or similar container platforms, including cluster lifecycle management, multi-tenancy, and large-scale workload orchestration.
• We need strong knowledge of datacenter networking, including software-defined networking, network virtualization, and physical-to-logical network abstraction.
• We need expertise in infrastructure identity and security architecture, including hardware attestation, workload identity frameworks, and zero-trust principles.
• We need demonstrated experience leading architecture governance forums, running design reviews, and converting regulatory and control requirements into architectural standards.
• We need demonstrated experience enabling safe use of enterprise-authorized AI capabilities in architecture workflows, including validation practices, governance controls, and sensitive data handling.
• Preferred: experience in multi-hypervisor or multi-platform environments supporting workloads across multiple virtualization technologies.
• Preferred: familiarity with sovereign cloud, air-gapped environments, and architectures designed for data sovereignty and regional regulatory requirements.
• Preferred: experience with storage architecture, including SAN, NAS, distributed storage, and enterprise resilience engineering practices.
• Preferred: knowledge of disaster recovery, datacenter failover strategies, business continuity planning, and fault isolation design principles.

• We advise and lead architecture strategy across multiple technology domains within our on-premises compute stack, including bare-metal provisioning, hypervisor platforms, virtual machine lifecycle management, container orchestration, software-defined networking, and infrastructure APIs.
• We lead reuse-first adoption of enterprise-authorized AI capabilities within architecture workflows to speed up analysis, design evaluation, and strategic decisions while maintaining governance and oversight.
• We translate highly complex infrastructure, platform, and security architecture concepts into actionable recommendations for senior technology leadership to shape our target-state architecture.
• We drive architectural direction for infrastructure identity, attestation, and zero-trust security models spanning hardware root of trust, workload identity, and secure platform services.
• We lead architecture governance across a portfolio of critical applications, including design reviews, risk assessment, regulatory alignment, and control adherence.
• We author and maintain architecture decision records, reference architectures, standards, and design patterns that guide engineering teams and promote consistency across domains.
• We establish architectural frameworks and infrastructure-as-code standards that serve as reference implementations for engineering teams across the organization.
• We drive cross-organizational alignment with peer architecture groups, enterprise governance bodies, and infrastructure reference architecture teams to influence strategic outcomes without direct authority.
• We lead architecture for sovereign and air-gapped deployment environments, addressing data sovereignty requirements, operational isolation, and regional regulatory obligations.
• We contribute to the evolution of AI infrastructure architecture, including accelerator technologies such as GPUs, DPUs, and IPUs, and their integration within the broader compute platform.
• We establish portfolio-level guardrails for AI-assisted and agentic workflows used in architecture and engineering governance, including traceability, auditability, and control expectations aligned to resiliency and security standards.
