This is an at-will, interim position funded by a finite funding source. The position is not eligible for tenure or non-probationary classified status under the Students First Act.

Job Title – School Social Worker 10 Month

Supervisor: Director of Office of Assessment, Accountability and School Counseling

Job Goal: To provide social work services to schools and students.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Master's degree in social work from an accredited university.
2. Possess and maintain standing as a Licensed Graduate Social Worker (LGSW).
3. Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
4. Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
5. Proficiency in oral and written communication skills.
6. Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups, as well as community agencies.
7. Knowledge of community-based resources and agencies.
8. Ability to develop, evaluate and implement social work programs.
9. Ability to demonstrate professionalism and high standards of performance.
10. Ability to solve problems as a productive team member.
11. Ability to use technology to communicate, to manage data, and to produce/submit required reports, correspondence, and/or financial information.
12. Physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina, and acuity to perform job responsibilities.
13. Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.
14. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.

Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

1. Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals and priorities.
2. Serves as a student advocate and as a liaison between the home, school, and community.
3. Provides intervention services for students and families with interpersonal and environmental difficulties.
4. Assists in the referral process of students and/or parents to appropriate community agencies and follow-up as necessary.
5. Provides consultation and collaborative services to teachers, principals, counselors, and other school personnel.
6. Makes home and community visits, as needed.
7. Helps identify and provide services to homeless students.
8. Models and maintains high ethical standards.
9. Assists school personnel in assessing students' social and environmental needs.
10. Coordinates and develops specialized services for students, parents, and families.
11. Develops and implements plans to enhance students' school success.
12. Assists school personnel in understanding better how facts such as family, culture, socioeconomic status, and physical and mental health can affect students' performance.
13. Develops a rapport with designated students and acts as a mentor when appropriate through individual and small group contact.
14. Develops programs designed to help students to improve their attendance, cope with crisis situations, develop self-discipline, build self-esteem, enhance problem-solving and decision-making skills, take advantage of educational opportunities, and learn to resolve conflicts without violence.
15. Encourages parents and families to actively participate in their child's education, use school and community resources more effectively, and identity and meet their child's emotional and social needs.
16. Demonstrates initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities.
17. Provides counseling to individual students at assigned schools having emotional, social, behavioral, or attendance problems.
18. Demonstrates appropriate organizational and time management skills.
19. Attends local, state, and national staff development programs, workshops, and conferences to improve professional performance and knowledge.
20. Maintains confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters in accordance with state and federal law.
21. Demonstrates initiative in identifying opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility.
22. Engages in professional growth and demonstrates professional ethics and effective leadership.
23. Responds to inquiries and requests in a timely and positive manner.
24. Maintains and submits required reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.
25. Properly cares for equipment and material resources of the school system.
26. Uses effective collaboration skills to work as a productive team member.
27. Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local laws.
28. Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures.
29. Performs any other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s).

Terms of Employment: As established by the Board and applicable state law.

Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
