Roosevelt High - CTE Teacher (Career Connected Learning Coordinator) - 1.0 FTE

Overview of Position Must have a WD - Career Choices (V600092) & WL - Work Site Learning (V600097) CTE certificate to apply for this position. The certificated position consists of classroom instruction and/or worksite learning, supporting all students with career‑connected learning activities in the school building. Main responsibilities include coordinating and supervising learning activities such as internships, job shadows, career decision‑making/planning, economic awareness/exploration, employability skills, and work readiness skills. The instructor will coordinate and monitor internships with local businesses, coordinate career‑readiness activities, create curriculum, and support student leadership with other Career Connected Learning Coordinators in the district, with support from the CTE district office. This position serves as a liaison between the school and the community, developing and sustaining industry‑related partnerships. The candidate is required to have a Washington State CTE Probational, Initial or Continuing teaching certificate with endorsements in Career Choices and Worksite Learning. General Summary A classroom teacher performs under the general direction of the building principal or program manager. They foster a learning environment, facilitate curriculum development, establish learning objectives based on district guidelines, provide instruction, counsel, discipline, and supervise, evaluate student performance, and progress. Essential Functions Fosters an educational environment conducive to the learning and maturation process, plans instructional programs for individual and group needs, including at‑risk or special‑needs youth, and prepares lesson plans. Uses appropriate instructional methods and materials, implements curriculum objectives, attends in‑service training, and continues professional growth. Establishes classroom policies, provides guidance, counseling, and discipline, and makes referrals for assistance where appropriate. Confers with students, parents or guardians, and other staff to maintain positive relationships and encourage achievement. Establishes classroom goals and objectives in conformance with state and district regulations, evaluates student progress, and prepares reports for parents or guardians. Collects and interprets data; provides reports for administrative purposes. Directs the activities of assigned non‑certificated personnel. Attends or participates in all required staff meetings and other activities necessary to accomplish position objectives and professional development. Other Functions Serves on staff committees as required. Participates in activities to enhance personal and professional skills. Performs related tasks consistent with the scope and responsibility of the position. Reporting Relationships Reports to the building principal. Working Conditions Required to manage a wide range of student achievement and behavior, remain flexible to meet students’ immediate needs, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and prioritize. May experience frequent interruptions and occasionally deal with distraught or difficult students. May be exposed to ordinary infectious diseases and various materials or equipment, requiring precautionary measures. May teach in a classroom without telephone communication. Typical Qualifications Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree or appropriate industry background qualifying the teacher for a Washington State CTE credential; academic preparation or experience teaching a culturally, racially, and economically diverse student population in an urban school system. Additional preparation or experience may include work with bilingual students, at‑risk dropout prevention, and multi‑level, open‑concept, or main‑streamed classes. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of subject areas appropriate to assignment, effective behavior‑management techniques, instructional techniques, and student‑safety rules and procedures. Skills in reading, writing, oral communication, and designing lesson plans for diverse achievement. Abilities to work positively with diverse populations, adapt to change, organize activities, manage behavior, maintain a safe environment, provide instruction, demonstrate techniques, use equipment and software, direct assistants, administer first aid and CPR, and establish positive relationships. Licenses and Special Requirements Must hold a WD - Career Choices (V600092) & WL - Work Site Learning (V600097) CTE certificate. Valid Washington State teaching certificate. Some positions may require first aid and CPR certification, a Washington State driver’s license, and/or a Class II driver’s license. Benefits Seattle Public Schools benefits are administered by the Washington State Healthcare Authority under the School Employees Benefits Board.
