Senior Automation Scientist/Engineer — Biologics Engineering Biologics Engineering

AstraZeneca seeks a Senior Automation Scientist/Engineer to design and optimize laboratory automation platforms for biologics discovery. The role involves integrating robotics, high-throughput systems, and data workflows while partnering with scientists to translate requirements into scalable solutions.

Responsibilities

• Design, integrate, and optimize robotics and high-throughput systems across the biologics engineering organization
• Serve as technical authority on automation platforms, scheduling software, and scripting environments, guiding design decisions and resolving complex issues
• Own reliability and continuous improvement of shared automation systems, identifying root causes and driving durable fixes
• Support operation and troubleshooting of deployed automated workflows to ensure sustained performance
• Train, mentor, and supervise junior engineers and scientists to grow team technical capability

Requirements

• Bachelor's or advanced degree in life sciences, engineering, computer science, or related field
• 4+ years of industry experience integrating automation with R&D bench science in biologics or drug discovery
• Deep hands-on expertise with laboratory automation platforms, liquid handlers, and high-throughput analytical technologies
• Advanced programming skills in automation scheduling software and liquid-handling platforms; Hamilton and Dynamic Devices experience preferred
• Strong understanding of laboratory workflows, assays, and how equipment capabilities affect automation design and data quality
• Demonstrated proficiency creating process maps from SOPs and process requirements
• Strong communication skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively in matrixed environments

Compensation: $124,713.60-$187,070.40 base annually
