Upon accepting an assignment and starting your role, your unit manager may assign you to an "Emergency Team." There will be an expectation to stay at the facility until after the event passes or be part of the relief team. Specific details pertaining to pay will be relayed on each emergency event as impacts vary. By signing your travel contract, you accept these terms and will report as assigned by your immediate unit manager if an emergency event occurs. You should not apply for this role if you are not comfortable with the above conditions. Unit highlights include welcoming first-time travelers. The unit serves a patient population that includes hematology, medical oncology, bone marrow transplant, gynecologic, and surgical oncology patients. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4. There is a float requirement and weekend coverage every other weekend. The unit features a 7-bed positive pressure wing for bone marrow transplant and acute leukemia patients. Procedures include bedside CVC placements and bone marrow biopsies. Equipment utilized includes Alaris IV pumps, barcode medication administration, SCD machines, and Alaris feeding pumps. Skills required include accessing and managing ports, administration of chemotherapy, blood product administration, central line blood draw, and colostomy/ileostomy management. Additionally, CVA management, feeding tube care, insulin management, and telemetry skills are expected. The facility provides interdisciplinary support from IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, social services, and pharmacy. Patient diagnoses primarily involve cancer treatment, including hematology and medical oncology. Special procedures include chemotherapy infusion and bone marrow transplants.
