Job Description

This role focuses on finishing and polishing metal auto body parts, primarily fenders for fire trucks, using both machine polishers and hand tools. The position requires strong attention to cosmetic detail, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, manufacturing environment that can be dirty, dusty, and hot. You will also operate equipment that assembles nuts and bolts onto sheet metal, making this a hands-on, technical role suited for individuals with experience in metal work, autobody, or similar mechanical backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• Prepare metal parts and fenders for polishing by locating, gathering, and checking materials and supplies for correctness and quality.
• Perform polishing operations on metal fenders using machine polishers and hand tools to achieve high-quality cosmetic finishes.
• Operate polishing equipment such as hand files, grinders, disks, rotary sanders, and abrasive wheels safely and efficiently.
• Remove bumps, indentations, and imperfections from metal parts without stretching or cutting through the finished piece, while maintaining contours, edges, and dimensions.
• Operate a PEM assembler/machine that screws nuts and bolts onto various pieces of sheet metal, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
• Interpret and use a tape measure to verify dimensions and ensure parts meet required specifications.
• Follow detailed instructions and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced production environment.
• Use personal protective equipment, including respirator helmets and provided suits or smocks, as required for specific tasks.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area, including tools and equipment, to support safe and efficient operations.
• Collaborate with other team members and support additional duties or jobs as needed to meet production goals.
• Work overtime when required to support production schedules and customer demands.

Essential Skills

• Mechanical aptitude and comfort working with metal parts and machinery.
• Ability to interpret and use a tape measure accurately.
• Experience with machine operation, particularly in metal finishing, polishing, or related manufacturing environments.
• Proficiency using hand and power tools such as grinders, rotary sanders, and abrasive wheels.
• Ability to perform repetitive movements with good dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
• Capability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
• Ability to stand for up to 10 hours per day.
• Ability to lift at least 50 pounds within a non-temperature-controlled environment.
• Willingness and ability to work overtime when needed.
• Consistent use of personal protective equipment, including a respirator helmet, as required.
• Team-oriented mindset and willingness to accept other jobs and duties when necessary.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with rolled sheet metal, autobody work, and/or foundry operations.
• Prior experience in metal finishing, polishing, buffing, metal grinding, and metal sanding.
• Experience with grinder operation and other power tools in a manufacturing or metalworking setting.
• Ability to work effectively as a team player on a production floor.
• Openness to bilingual training if available.

Work Environment

This position is based in a manufacturing environment on a busy production floor, working alongside other machine operators, machinists, forklift operators, and supervisors. The role involves working in a dirty, dusty, and hot setting, especially during the summer, within a non-temperature-controlled facility. You will perform physically demanding work, including standing for up to 10 hours and lifting at least 50 pounds. The schedule runs from 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, with additional hours on Friday from 5:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., and overtime as needed. You will regularly use hand files, grinders, disks, rotary sanders, abrasive wheels, and other power tools. Personal protective equipment is mandatory, including a full suit provided by the company, smocks or coverups as needed, and a respirator helmet when polishing parts. The environment supports teamwork and collaboration while maintaining a strong focus on safety and quality.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of York, PA.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
