Technical Writer/Editor (Mid-Level)

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Technical Writer/Editor (Mid-Level) based in the United States.

This role offers the opportunity to shape clear, high-quality technical content supporting federal government training and modernization initiatives.
You will manage documentation across the full course development lifecycle, from gathering technical information through final delivery.
The position combines technical writing, editing, research, instructional support, and quality assurance in a collaborative environment.
You will work closely with subject matter experts, instructional designers, and engineering professionals to translate complex concepts into accessible materials.
Your work will contribute to technical manuals, user guides, reports, cybersecurity training collateral, and system security documentation.
The role is fully remote and project-based, offering flexibility while supporting meaningful public-sector initiatives.
Success requires precision, strong communication, sound judgment, and the ability to turn complex technical information into polished, useful content.

Accountabilities:

• Plan, coordinate, and manage documentation activities throughout the course development and modernization lifecycle.
• Write, edit, revise, and proofread technical materials, including systems documentation, user manuals, reports, cybersecurity training materials, and system security plans.
• Collaborate with subject matter experts, instructional designers, engineers, and other stakeholders to gather technical information and ensure content is accurate and instructionally sound.
• Research and organize complex technical information, translating it into clear, concise, accessible, and audience-appropriate documentation.
• Develop technical illustrations, diagrams, layouts, and other visual elements that support effective learning and documentation.
• Apply established writing, formatting, style, and quality-control standards consistently across deliverables.
• Review documentation for accuracy, consistency, clarity, completeness, grammar, formatting, and adherence to project requirements.
• Coordinate documentation inputs and revisions across multiple contributors while maintaining timelines and ensuring deliverables remain on track.
• Support the development and revision of e-learning and instructor-led training materials as part of broader curriculum modernization efforts.
• Identify opportunities to improve documentation processes, presentation quality, and the overall usability of technical and training content.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Technical Writing, or a related field; an Associate's degree combined with equivalent relevant professional experience may also be considered.
• At least 3 years of professional technical writing and editing experience, preferably involving training, software, cybersecurity, or federal government documentation.
• Demonstrated ability to write, edit, rewrite, and refine technical manuals, reports, instructional materials, and other technical content.
• Experience gathering and validating technical information through collaboration with subject matter experts and technical professionals.
• Ability to create or support technical illustrations, diagrams, document layouts, and visual elements for training packages.
• Strong understanding of document quality-control practices, editorial standards, formatting conventions, and technical communication principles.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt complex information for different audiences.
• Strong attention to detail and a highly organized approach to managing multiple documentation tasks and deadlines.
• Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment while collaborating effectively with distributed teams.
• U.S. citizenship is required for this position.
• Experience supporting federal government contracts is beneficial.
• Comfortable working approximately 20 hours per week in a part-time, project-based capacity.
• Ability to proactively identify issues, clarify ambiguous information, and maintain high standards throughout the documentation lifecycle.
