Job Title: Structural Project Manager / Structural Engineer Job Description

This role offers an exciting opportunity for an energetic Structural Project Manager with a passion for the repair and restoration of existing buildings. Based in the Jersey City office, you will support projects from initial evaluation and design conception through construction completion. You will lead and coordinate structural assessments, design development, bidding, and construction administration services while conducting inspections, preparing reports, ensuring contract compliance, and maintaining strong communication with clients, contractors, and internal teams. This position is ideal for a structural engineer with several years of experience who wants to grow quickly into a full project management role within a stable forensic and restoration-focused engineering environment.

• Coordinate and manage internal project kick-off, milestone, and closeout meetings, ensuring clear communication and collaboration among all team members and stakeholders.
• Verify project schedules and monitor adherence to plans and timelines, both internally and with external resources, to achieve project objectives efficiently.
• Conduct on-site inspections of existing buildings and structures, documenting existing conditions, performing field testing, taking photographs, and creating hand sketches as needed.
• Observe and track work in progress to verify compliance with project specifications, drawings, and applicable codes.
• Record accurate field measurements and perform engineering calculations throughout the duration of each project.
• Prepare clear, professional written correspondence and technical reports for clients, contractors, and other stakeholders.
• Interpret investigation reports, bid documents, drawings, and technical specifications to ensure accurate implementation in the field and in design.
• Communicate project status regularly and proactively address issues or discrepancies, escalating unresolved matters to a direct supervisor in a timely manner.
• Maintain organized records, files, drawings, and other project documentation within company systems to ensure easy accessibility and future reference.
• Collect post-project feedback, identify areas for improvement, and communicate this feedback to leadership for continuous improvement.
• Stay current with job knowledge and industry trends by participating in educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and engaging in professional societies and networks.
• Participate in networking activities and represent the firm at events, seminars, and continuing education presentations, actively seeking marketing opportunities to promote the organizations presence in the industry.
• Perform complex inspections and testing to verify compliance with project specifications, codes, and industry standards, applying sound engineering judgment.
• Generate detailed field reports and opinion reports that clearly document findings, analyses, and recommendations.
• Demonstrate a thorough understanding of specifications and plans and produce accurate, comprehensive project documents.
• Understand and interpret technical contract requirements and ensure compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
• Review and evaluate change orders, assess their impact on project scope, schedule, and budget, and provide well-supported recommendations to team leads or senior management.
• Review contractor payment applications and verify the accuracy of reported work completed and materials supplied.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, serving as a primary point of contact, addressing concerns, and managing expectations throughout the project.
• Independently plan, organize, and run project meetings, clearly communicating project objectives, deliverables, and action items to all stakeholders.
• Work closely with internal teams to understand the scope of work, budget, goals, deliverables, and timeline, ensuring alignment and project success.
• Mentor and provide guidance to Project Associates, supporting their professional growth and contributing to a collaborative, learning-oriented team environment.
• Attend client meetings and events as needed to support ongoing projects and business development efforts.
• Efficiently manage time and resources to adhere to project budgets and deadlines while handling multiple projects concurrently.
• Perform other duties related to the position as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to contribute to the overall success of the team.

• Bachelors degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from a four-year college or university, or relevant equivalent work experience.
• A minimum of 25 years of experience in an engineering consulting firm or related construction industry, with a focus on buildings and structural engineering.
• 23 years of structural engineering experience working on buildings, including structural design and structural analysis.
• Proficiency in structural engineering concepts related to structural steel, concrete, steel structures, and structural design of building components.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and familiarity with computer-aided drafting (CAD) for structural projects.
• Knowledge of building codes, regulations, and industry standards applicable to structural engineering and construction.
• Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and tasks concurrently.
• Proficient written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear technical reports and professional correspondence.
• Attention to detail and accuracy in project documentation, calculations, and deliverables.
• Ability to interpret and understand drawings, specifications, and technical contract requirements.
• Ability to perform field work, including inspections, measurements, testing, and observations at client sites.
• Valid United States drivers license to support travel to and from client sites.
• OSHA 30-hour certification.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.

• Parking garage restoration experience, including evaluation and repair of existing parking structures, is preferred.
• Experience in forensic engineering, building envelope systems, and existing structure assessments is beneficial.
• Familiarity with additional drafting and modeling software such as BricsCAD and Revit for positions that utilize these tools.
• EIT (Engineer-in-Training) certification or progress toward professional licensure is advantageous.
• Experience with construction administration, including reviewing change orders and payment applications, is a plus.
• Demonstrated ability to lead meetings and coordinate with multiple stakeholders is highly valued.
• Active participation in professional societies, industry events, and continuing education programs is encouraged.
• Interest in developing from a limited project management background into a full Structural Project Manager role within a supportive environment.
• Strong networking skills and an interest in representing the firm at industry events and seminars.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor junior staff and contribute to a culture of learning and growth.

The firm operates as a growing engineering organization with approximately 200 employees across 16 office locations, with the Jersey City office housing around 2025 team members. The structural and building envelope (high-rise) teams are based in the Jersey City office, creating a collaborative environment focused on existing building repair, restoration, and forensic engineering. This is a five-day, in-office role, with an expectation that you will be on job sites approximately 70% of the time and in the office about 30% of the time. When project sites are close to your home, there is flexibility to work from home to help balance travel demands. Standard hours are typically 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break, and there is some flexibility in start and end times. The work involves frequent field visits, inspections, and travel to client sites, combined with office-based tasks such as analysis, design, reporting, and coordination. The environment emphasizes stability, as the firm focuses on existing structures and forensic engineering, offering long-term growth opportunities in a rapidly expanding organization. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team, using tools such as AutoCAD and other drafting software, and will be supported in your professional development through training, mentoring, and exposure to diverse projects.

This is a Permanent position based out of Hoboken, NJ.

The pay range for this position is $65000.00 - $100000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
