Independent Medical Consultant

Client: NM Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (NMDVR) / NM Disability Determination Services (NMDDS) Engagement Type: Independent Contractor, up to 4-year term Location: NMDDS Office, 7421 Bartlett NE, Albuquerque, NM 87109 (remote status pending Agency confirmation) Commitment: Minimum 20 hrs/week average (quarterly), 8:00 AM5:00 PM MT, MonFri Role Summary: Perform independent medical assessments of physical impairments to support SSA disability determinations, focused on residual functional capacity (RFC) evaluation. Key Responsibilities:

• Complete SSA-4734 Physical Residual Functional Capacity Assessment (RFC) forms
• Assist with SSA-416 Medical Evaluation and SSA-538-F6 Childhood Disability Evaluation forms (physical impairments)
• Consult with Disability Adjudicators on adequacy of physical/medical evidence
• Consult with treating physicians, hospitals, and other medical providers
• Perform full RFC evaluation per 20 CFR 404.1520a / 416.920a
• Attend SSA/NMDDS training; assist in training new Adjudicators
• Maintain 95%+ accuracy rate and 3-workday average case turnaround

Mandatory Requirements:

• Current, valid, non-restricted M.D. license, good standing, no disciplinary violations
• Licensed in New Mexico (pending written confirmation on out-of-state license acceptance)
• Eligible to pass SSA background check
• Available 20+ hrs/week average, quarterly

• Narrative tying background/expertise to the Medical Consultant role (SSA disability evaluation experience, RFC/PRTF/MRFC familiarity, prior DDS/SSA work if any)
• Proof of current, active, non-restricted license
• Signed Appendix F Professional Practice Questions (individual per candidate)
• Signed Appendix G Notice of Availability (individual per candidate)

Preferred (strengthens score, not mandatory): Prior SSA/state DDS Medical Consultant or Independent MC experience; familiarity with SSA POMS.
