Learning Specialist

Assess individual student learning needs Help students develop compensatory learning skills in study strategies, organization, time management, reading and writing, note taking, and test taking Provide consistent and systematic structure for implementing these skills Coordinate services with other on-campus academic support providers according to student need Maintain an electronic summary of student progress Communicate with SAASS staff regarding student status and progress Participate in bi-monthly staff meetings Support Miami University and Intercollegiate Athletics with institutional compliance with NCAA and Conference rules and regulations Provide one-on-one guidance to strengthen students' academic, time management, and organizational skills Requirements Bachelor's degree Experience working with students in an educational setting At least one year of experience applying effective learning strategies in an educational setting Experience working with people from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences Experience gained during internships and/or graduate assistantships may be counted at half-time toward these requirements Understanding of effective learning strategies A criminal background check is required Must comply with NCAA and Conference rules and regulations Required application document: Resume/CV Preferred: Master's degree Preferred: At least one year of experience working with students in higher education Preferred: teaching certificate and/or at least one year of experience providing one-on-one academic support Professional tutoring or teaching experience is a plus Certification and experience in special education is a plus Core Competencies Demonstrates expertise in assessing student learning needs and implementing effective learning strategies, while providing one-on-one academic support and maintaining compliance with NCAA and Conference regulations.
