This position will be based at VCU Health Community MemorialHospital in South Hill, Virginia.

VCU Health Community Memorial Hospital is a small, rural communityhospital that provides a wide range of subspecialty care to a largeregion. In 2017, VCU Health System built a beautiful, brand-newhospital that is both aesthetically and clinically spectacular. Thefamily medicine residency clinic is attached to the hospital. Ourdepartment provides newborn nursery and inpatient pediatricscoverage. Current inpatient volumes are approximately 300deliveries and 50 pediatrics admissions per calendar year. Highacuity cases are transferred to a higher level of care. July 1,2025, CMH welcomed its first class of family medicine residents.The residents spend their first year of training at our main campusin Richmond, approximately 75 miles to our north, and spend theirsecond and third years in South Hill.

Mission, History & Programs of the Department

Founded in 1970, the Department of Family Medicine and PopulationHealth at VCU has a long and proud history of training medicalstudents and resident physicians. Our department houses our familymedicine medical student education programs, including a highlyrated clerkship and two longitudinal, four-year track programs. Ourdepartment is one of the top ten in the nation for family medicineresearch.

We have four affiliated family medicine residency programs atvarious locations around the Commonwealth of Virginia in additionto our new VCU Health Community Memorial Hospital Family MedicineResidency, which will graduate its first class in 2027.

Chief Purpose of this position

This position will work at the Community Memorial Health FamilyMedicine Residency Clinic in South Hill, Virginia, serving as aprimary care physician and Regional Medical Director. The RegionalMedical Director will be the lead physician responsible forcollaborating with nursing and administrative leadership to promotequality, safe, efficient, effective, patient and provider centeredservices delivered at all VCU Health Family Medicine Facilities inSouthside Virginia. Currently we have locations in Bracey,Clarksville, and South Hill. This is a new role created to supportexpansion of family medicine services in the region.

Position Responsibilities:

Clinical (80%)

• Responsible for maintaining a practice/panel at the Family CareCenter Family Medicine Residency Clinic
• Precepting Family Medicine Residents and Medical Students
• Perform administrative duties as are appropriate and necessaryto support operations of the VCU Health Systems including but notlimited to completing patient medical records, student evaluationsand other required documentation
• Maintain clinical competency in Family Medicine and Newborncare
• Serve on various medical staff committees
• Participate in activities, which demonstrate professionalcommitment to position and to VCU Health Systems

Administrative (20%)

• The Regional Medical Director will be the lead physicianresponsible for collaborating with nursing and administrativeleadership to promote quality, safe, efficient, effective, patientand provider centered services delivered by VCU Health in SouthsideVirginia.

Minimum Qualifications

• Eligible to obtain license to practice medicine in theCommonwealth of Virginia
• Completion of an accredited residency program in FamilyMedicine
• Board Certified and recertified if applicable by the AmericanBoard of Family Medicine
• Experience in providing direct patient care to underservedpopulations across multiple settings
• Willing and able to care for patients in both the inpatient andoutpatient settings. This position will include light newbornnursery and inpatient pediatrics call (facility currently hasapprox. 300 deliveries/year and less than 50 pediatricsadmissions/year, high acuity neonatal/pediatrics are transferred tohigher level of care). Adult inpatient services are optional forthis position. We incorporate proctoring as part of our onboardingprocess, so current inpatient privileges are not required.
• Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment ofrespect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty,staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or acommitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in providing direct patient care and/or residencytraining in rural settings
• Direct experience in the medical education of learners such asresidents, medical students, inter-professional learners
• Confidence and willingness to be a faculty lead in one or moreof the following:
• Care of pregnant women including antenatal, labor and deliveryincluding operative management, and postpartum care
• Care of adults in the inpatient setting
• Care of children in the inpatient setting
• Mental Health treatment in the primary care setting
• Substance abuse treatment to include medically assistedtherapy
• Primary care Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) and/orspecialized procedural training in emergency, inpatient andoutpatient settings
• Leadership experience, preferably of a multi-site primary caregroup.
