Job Summary:
The Skilled Trades Department at Red Rocks Community College is seeking a part-time Construction / Carpentry Instructor to teach courses within the Carpentry program and related Skilled Trades pathways. This position is focused on delivering high-quality classroom and hands-on instruction that prepares students for employment and advancement in residential remodeling, carpentry, construction, and related skilled trades fields.
This position is designed to support student learning through course instruction, lab-based demonstrations, hands-on skills practice, safety instruction, proper tool and equipment use, construction planning, material layout, measurement, and assessment of student performance. The instructor may teach courses in construction technology, carpentry basics, residential remodeling, renovation and additions, form and foundation systems, roof framing, roofing materials and methods, exterior finishes and trim, interior trim, built-ins, floor finishes, stair design and construction, and other related construction topics based on program need and instructor qualifications. This position is intended to provide students with practical, industry-aligned instruction in construction methods, carpentry practices, jobsite safety, blueprint reading, layout, framing, finish work, remodeling techniques, material use, and professionalism. The role supports students as they develop technical skills, safe work habits, problem-solving ability, and workforce readiness needed for entry-level and advancement opportunities in the construction and carpentry fields. The Construction / Carpentry Instructor will collaborate with the Director of Skilled Trades, program faculty, and Skilled Trades leadership to support consistent course delivery. Courses should be taught in alignment with approved curriculum, student learning outcomes, Colorado Career and Technical Education expectations, college procedures, and current industry practices. The instructor may also incorporate advisory board feedback when appropriate. Instructors are expected to meet all scheduled class periods, start and end classes promptly, teach assigned curriculum, use required texts and materials, and provide students with a complete syllabus before the first day of class. Instructors are also expected to use instructional technology, including the college learning management system, to support student learning, communication, grading, and course organization. The Construction / Carpentry Instructor is responsible for assessing student learning, maintaining accurate grading records, submitting final grades by the required deadline, and providing timely feedback to students. The instructor should prepare for each class meeting, use learning strategies that support a diverse community college student population, and ensure that course content and assessments align with course objectives.
The instructor must be patient, respectful, and clear about expectations for acceptable work and safe performance. The instructor should model professional jobsite behavior, reinforce safe construction practices, and demonstrate dedication to the course, the Carpentry program, and the goals of the Skilled Trades department.
Competencies/KSAs:
• Knowledge of residential construction, carpentry, remodeling, tools, equipment, materials, safety practices, and current industry procedures.
• Knowledge of construction technology, carpentry basics, framing, roofing, foundations, exterior finishes, interior finishes, trim work, built-ins, flooring, stair construction, and related construction practices.
• Ability to teach construction and carpentry courses in classroom, laboratory, shop, hybrid, online, and hands-on training environments.
• Ability to demonstrate proper layout, measurement, cutting, assembly, installation, remodeling, framing, finishing, and material handling practices.
• Ability to read, interpret, and teach from construction drawings, plans, specifications, and related technical documents.
• Ability to explain technical construction and carpentry concepts clearly to students with varying levels of experience.
• Ability to monitor student performance and provide constructive feedback in classroom, laboratory, shop, and hands-on training settings.
• Ability to maintain safe, organized, and effective learning environments.
• Ability to model professional jobsite behavior, safe work habits, and appropriate use of tools, equipment, materials, and personal protective equipment.
• Demonstrated ability to work with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds and support inclusive learning environments.
• Ability to use instructional technology, including the college learning management system, to support course delivery, communication, and grading.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Qualifies for post-secondary CTE credential including 4000 non-teaching occupational hours within the last 7 years.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Associate degree or higher in Carpentry, Construction Management, Construction Technology, Building Trades, Skilled Trades, or a related field.
• Significant industry experience in residential construction, residential remodeling, carpentry, renovation, additions, or related construction work.
• Experience teaching, training, mentoring, supervising apprentices, or leading hands-on technical instruction in construction, carpentry, remodeling, apprenticeship, or workforce training settings.
• Experience with construction technology, carpentry fundamentals, framing, foundations, roofing, exterior finishes, interior trim, built-ins, floor finishes, stair construction, and residential remodeling practices.
• Experience reading and interpreting construction drawings, blueprints, specifications, project plans, layouts, and related technical documents.
• Experience with construction layout, measurement, material estimating, safe tool use, material handling, and jobsite safety practices.
• Experience using hand tools, power tools, shop equipment, construction equipment, and related instructional or jobsite equipment.
• Knowledge of applicable building codes, construction standards, OSHA requirements, and safe work practices.
• Prior community college, career and technical education, apprenticeship, or adult education teaching experience.
• OSHA 10, OSHA 30, NCCER, Home Builders Institute, contractor license, or other industry-recognized construction or carpentry certification.
• Experience working with diverse student populations and supporting students entering the construction field with varying levels of prior experience.

• Regularly uses a computer, learning management system, email, instructional technology, and standard office equipment to support course instruction, communication, and grading.
• Cognitive demands include observing, comparing, measuring, calculating, troubleshooting, analyzing, coordinating, demonstrating, communicating, instructing, evaluating student performance, and applying sound judgment in classroom and hands-on learning settings.
• The person in this position regularly communicates with students, faculty, staff, and program leadership. Must be able to exchange accurate technical, safety, and instructional information in these situations.
